I have an 02 6sp truck I was just wondering what years the dowel pin problem effects?

I was told the front gear case had this stepped up design and you dont gotta worry about it on the 02's but thats just my $.02

The CR engines are the only ones totally exempt from dowel pin issues.

I can't speak in terms of a newer truck, but the prior owner did the KDP before I got the truck and it has an updated timing gear case with what appears to be a stepped portion to stop the pin from coming out. Maybe they ended up putting the updated design in most trucks past a certain point? My truck is a 97 FWIW.

To the OP, if you aren't 100% sure I would just go after it assuming it hasn't been fixed. Even if it is, you'll at least be a little more familiar with the front of the motor and have peace of mind knowing it's taken care of. Good luck.

I recall reading that even the VP trucks had this issue. So when I was replacing my radiator and IC, I took that opportunity to tab my KDP only to find that I had the revised timing case. My truck is an 01.5 and I bought it in late 02 with about 58k miles on it (used of course). So I'm doubting that it had the case replaced although it is possible.

With that said, I agree 100% with "lastcall".

My 99 had the stepped case, but my cousins late 01 had an old case. It seems like its a crap shoot.
