I am going to be purchasing an airdog or FASS soon. Someone told me that I need to install a draw straw. Do I really need to or would it just help the pump pull more fuel? Seems like I have heard a lot of problems with the draw straw picking up fuel when the tank gets low. I drive a lot and don't want to have to fill up every 300 miles. Any input?

The draw straw is necessary & easy to install. The tank comes down alot easier than you would think also, but alot of guys just slide the bed back to gain access. The reason guys have trouble with their draw straws are because they weren't installed correctly, either they cut the straw too short or don't put enough angle on the bottom or too much angle. I have had mine in for 2 years & I've run my tank below E many times with no troubles at all. My brother also has not had any issues, both trucks work like factory. Just make sure that you cut the straw long enough that it touches the bottom of the tank & cut it at a 30-45* angle so that fuel can be picked up. I have a great connection to a dealer selling the Airdog 150 for $450 if you are interested, pm me.

I wouldn't say it's neccesary. I know a lot of trucks running FASS without the draw straw with no problems. I installed a draw straw on a truck that had been running a FASS for a couple of years and he saw no difference what so ever. This truck dynos around 560hp.

Really? I am a contractor & following basic principal, a big waterline can feed into a smaller one, but not a small one into a big one or you will have less pressure kinda deal. I guess it will work then. Sorry.

My FASS draws through a stock pick-up tube, never had a problem with it. 21 psi at idle, can pull it down to 18.5 WOT.

Ran stock pickup with 150/150 FASS, no issues. Added the drawstraw when I installed my Espar, and saw no real difference. No issues with running out of fuel. I don't go too far below 1/8 of a tank though.
