Who has some data on drive pressures for a s400 with the 74mm wheel. I am seeing some interesting drive pressures with this setup and curious to compare with others.

Im sorry T6 1.32, had a moment there to many numbers running through my head

I'm running 60psi boost and 80-90psi drive pressure thats with a .90exhaust housing and a 74mm comp. wheel

With an S480 with .9 Housing, I logged 47-49lbs boost, 75-85PSI drive pressure.

Too much, similar numbers boost in the 45 psi and 80 psi drive. Not ran the gate the last two pulls and the numbers were very similar.

Going to configure the gate with drive holding it shut, and have a filter/regulator on the top side of the gate. I haven't ran the numbers, but going to regulate the drive to the top of the gate. Trying to keep the drive at say 55 psi.
What are the thoughts if I don't run any air to the bottom of the gate?
40 psi on the bottom port will start to open the gate, so lets say just regulated 20 psi to the top, when drive on the valve exceeds spring pressure and regulated drive pressure the gate starts to open?

Thoughts?

Mine is not a 74 but runs about 10 over boost. .9 housing.

Lot of it depends on boost, IE if my drive was 55 psi it would only be about 10 over my boost.

The log shows boost leveling out, and drive continues to climb.
So at 60 psi boost your seeing 70 drive?

Well not an S400 but simalar. GT4202 55 psi of boost 85 drive. If I crank the fuel to get to 60 psi my drive climbs to 100+. Changing housing did not make any worth while difference. I have been considering going to a S480 with the 87mm turbine. But I really like how easy it is to stay on top of the GT42. So recently I been thinking about going with a S480 with the 83mm turbine and gating it. Should accomplish the same thing and be easier to stay up on top of??

Dan, are you having problems with the gate set-up normally?

Define normally. LOL, I had boost to the top, and regulated boost to the bottom, it would always seem to open up on me. So I pulled the gate off, and ran a few hooks without it. I think got the logger set up on it, and was very surprised at how high the drive was. So now that I have a few runs wtih no gate logged, I can put the gate back on and start tweaking it.

I was just thinking about the function that I want to use the gate for, it isn't to limit boost, as my boost is pretty constant once the drive comes up. The drive continues to climb, but the boost doesn't, so I figure if I can just open the gate based on drive pressure, that would be the ticket right?

Hence using regulated drive to the top port, then drive pressure on the valve face exceeds spring pressure+regulated drive, the gate should start to open. The force of the spring should increase as you compress the spring, so that should help regulate the system, as well as once the gate starts to open drive should be released, so the valve should drop back down.

Thoughts?
