i put a hd transfer case in my truck and was wondering how much to shorten the drive shaft

do you have a 1 pc or 2 pc, i think the rule is about 6 ft max for a single, when i did that same change i stuck my yoke in my trans leaving it about 1 in. out and measured from the center of the joint in the front yoke to the rear yoke center, mine worked out to 5 ft, but it was a cab and chassis truck.

its a one piece i cant measure like you did because i dont have the engine back in the truck yet and i need to get the drive shaft made so i can hopefully have it running by saturday

I'm not 100% sure, but aren't the driveshafts the same length if you just swapped from an LD to an HD? I thought the cases were the same size - just the internals were bigger?

Not sure about the length. I done a d70 to d80 swap the same time I done my dld to dhd swap. But you will need a different slip yoke for the dhd.

Nope they are different. If you go from the ld to the hd they have to be shortened. On my ext cab long bed, I shortened it 1"-1 1/4". Should be the same for you Tyler I would think. Dont think it matters if its a 1 piece or 2 piece. While your at it though, I would go ahead and have that 1480 yoke put in the rear. TRUST ME IT WILL BREAK!

I have all the 1480 yokes for it, i had to get the 1480 slip yoke from haisley machine.

Thanks for clearing that up - I did not know that.
