drive shaft question

ok did the auto swap, and almost done, my drive shaft came out of the same truck as the auto did, how much of the shiny part of the shaft should be showing. There is about 4 1/2 inch's total and i have about 2 1/16 showing with it bolted in place, how much should i have if any at all.

about an inch or so i believe. call your local driveshaft shop and they can tell you where to take some measurements to make sure is good. you may need to have is lengthened/shortened. that does not cost very much. what trans did you use, where did you find the core? i am thinking about doing this myself. and if you dont mind me asking, how much you spent so far?
