I'm going to put a Dana 80 with a Detroit locker in this Spring (thanks for help on that). As it is a bigger pumpkin I will have to rework the driveshaft and have it shortened.

The 80 has a 1410 pinion yoke on it right now and I have the stock transfer case yoke that I can use.

My question is should I change yokes now or just wait. What strength ends should I put on the driveshaft? And who around the SW Wisconsin area does a good job on driveshafts.

Thanks for help. Next step swapping axles.

Put a 1480 yoke on the 80 and have a 1480 yoke welded in the shaft. you can get the yoke from Randy's ring and pinion. The driveshaft shop should be able to provide the weld in yoke. Sorry dont know a good shaft shop up there. Is there a Inland truck parts up there?

If you really want to do it, and do it right, go to a 4 inch tube and use the 1480 stuff. I had a one piece shaft, and ti worked fine, but after much thought about maybe an occasional drag race, and changing gear ratios I felt that a 4" shaft that long could have issues at high speeds. So I had a 4" two piece made up. 1480 joints all the way through, modified the stock mount to hold a heavier carrier bearing. I used the front section of what was left of the rear 3" two piece with 1410 u joints to make my new front drive shaft. The expensive part of the shafts is the slip joints and that is the section I reused. Saved $500 cause you only need that piece shortened to work on the front.

my new rear drive shaft is 4inch tubing...cant remember the wall thickness off the top of my head...but its all 1480 but old school with straps instead of snap rings kinda like what they used to use on older monster trucks ha ill post up some pics when i get it back in a day or two also has a massive carrier bearing now not the stock heavy bearing in the weaker caseing:Cheer:

were abouts are you and how far from madison are you? theres a couple places that do then i know Eggimann in madison and theres one more i cant think of its name but i can tell you were it is

thanks for above posts.

Ramtough01, I'm on the West coast of Wisconsin in Arcadia, between La Crosse and Eau Claire. About 2.5 hours from Madison. If you have a line on someone shoot me their name, it can't hurt. I also sent Garrett an e-mail to see where he had his built at.

I haven't had any luck finding the front sliding yoke in 1480 yet, any directions to head. Randy's R&P didn't have it but had the pinion yoke.

Call Haisleys for the slide in yoke on the transfer case. They have a yoke from another application turned down to fit. They also have the yoke the 1410 yoke that goes on the front of the transfer case.

I didn't have any luck finding one as well so I went with the flange style yoke and had my transfer case built with a flange instead of a slip. Can't remember where this place is but I got my 1480 flange yoke from Six States. Sorry, wish I could be more help on that but it has been so long since I went to 1480s I can't remember exactly where that place is located. Somewhere up in Washington but don't quote me.

Thanks SChandler, that was the place. I guess I was close, I knew the location started with a W.:bang
