Got a friend with a p-pumped 01 dodge ex-cab longbed. The truck is making awsome power, but its way too much for the drivetrain to handle even with the basic upgrades. He pulled just this past saturday night at a local pull and fro what I hear he got everything in th edrive trian except the motor. tranny, transfercase, both rearends. Yea it was bad. Had a great pull going then about 75ft out it all let go. I told him about a few axel upgrades fom haisley, schied, and enterprise engine, but he is alos on the hunt for everythng else. Just wondering what tranny parts and transfer cases everyone that is in the 800+ HP range is running in the drivetrain and where to get it. Our Organization doesn't allow Reversers, Drop boxes, or big rearends, so anything that is a 1-ton design is a must. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Auto or manual?? 241DHD will handle it, 1480 ujoints ont he rear driveshaft, 1410 u joints on the front drive shaft. Haisley axles are good, D80 Posi spider gears won't handle it. Get a locker. If it is a manual tranny and a 5 speed, 1 3/8 input upgrade with a good DD clutch, if it is an auto good convertor, VB, and shafts. You really sure he has 800HP??

For the money he has in it, something would be wrong if it didn't make that much. He is running in a 2.8mm class. The engine is highly modified. Not sure on the specs, but I can assure you it is alot. If its not 800 then its somewhere in the ball park. He has a DD clutch and upgraded inputshaft. Not sure of everything else. Here is a Video of it breaking. Its the Dark Blue Dodge with the stack out the hood. Just keep watching till it gets to his pull. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_aEuRn-1M0

Power alone didnt do that......power and hopping did that.

If I put a stack through my hood does that mean I got 800hp too?

Really if he just gets the hop out he should be ok with somewhat stock parts in there. An upgrade to the 1480/yokes u joints is a good idea like Dan mentioned above.

Stack on your truck should be good for at least 900HP. Takes alot more guts to cut a 3rd gen hood up then a second gen.

I would go with a NV5600 with a DD and go with a 271 transfercase and the 1480 U joints to the axles...Then upgrade the axleshafts with some Mosers maybe? Not sure who offers stronger axleshafts for these trucks...And put a Detroit in the 80. And after watching the video it didn't look like it did all the damage you said...

Stay away from Mosers, unless they have changed in the past few years. Many have said that the stockers hold up better. SCS or haisleys have axles for the trucks.

Cools, Thanks. I'll have to remember that if/when I get to that level. My (still)sub-500HP should be OK on my axles:D

I never said a stack gave you 800hp. I was just pointing that out so you guys would know which truck it was. And yes he did get everything on that pull. I guess it just all happened at once. I thought the same thing. I thought maybe just the front drive shaft and maybe the front axel, it was pulled off the track, and would not move at all in the pits. His mechanic said he got it home and every thing in the drivetrain was destroyed. I was just asking for opinions on what stuff to upgrade to and where to get it, not a bunch of smart ass comments. BUt thanks for the info you have posted.

If I were to do it all over again I would have put a NV4500 into it and forgot about the 6-speed. Reason being is they are ALOT MORE $$$, I don't believe they are as tuff, the weigh double that of a 4500 (more you can hang out front) and plus...say if you ever wanted to you could run a 3 disk clutch with the 4500 by using a longer imput shaft and a steel can over the clutch.

Just me...but my only choice other than a NV4500 would be a Drop-Box and a reverser!

I agree on the NV4500 for durability. They don't have the mainshaft problems and many of the DHRA superstreet ran them. Just put in the big input shaft and go.
