Is it possible to run a divorced SCS or Profab drop box behind a 5 or 6spd manual and just always use direct in the tranny. I know the tranny is still weaker than a reverser but I'm wondering if its possible.

**** ya it's possible!!

2wd output on the trans.. 2wd cross member. solid mount the drop box... measure for the shafts to hook everything up, done.....

what do u want to bump up to super street!!!!?!?!?!?!

No, I was having a discussion about building another truck from scratch and trying to save money on some of the fancy parts/custom fabrication. just a drop box is alot easier than doing the reverser and mid shaft.

I've already decided i won't go further than 2.8 with my current truck. if i build another truck the blue one is getting de-tuned to 2.6/street duty again, or possibly towrig.

The only reason keeping you from this would possibly be pulling rules. Don't most 2.6/2.8 rules state something that the drive train components must be as originally equipped in the vehicle.....maybe you are planning to be out of such classes/rules.

Yes it would be a super street truck. open driveline allowed.

The gear driven boxes with quick change gears is the reasoning behind going to the drop box, and not just trying to run a factory driveline. Problem is my neighbor who helps me alot with any custom fabrication/welding etc. used to be a mud-racer. They ran alcohol big blocks with 3spd non-OD trannies and a chain drive (similar to drop boxes but not as strong as gear driven boxes) and he insists on ditching the factory t-case for a chain drive even in my 2.8 truck.

I told him if we build the truck to just worry about the frame/suspension. he keeps telling me about using nitrous on a cummins and make it turn 9k rpms on 3 stages if its balanced right. I keep asking him where the fuel for 9k is coming from...he says the nitrous bottles. LOL

i dont have the money for something like that...it would be a slow build done as I had the cash for the parts.

secondly i would take no pride in buying a truck built by someone else. sure its my hard earned money but its just not as fun when you go and win because your check writing ability was better than the next guy. its alot more fun when you build it yourself and go out and see what it does.

You already did the 241 to 271 swap... that not strong enough? I thought those things were strong as hell? Or is it just the jump to super street that would warrant such a driveline...

another truck. not sure if it will even happen yet. and it will be a long term build, putting it together as money allows.

If you got that much time on your hands, come on down. I could use the help getting my clunker done the rest of the way!:hehe:
