Alright guys, this has been beat to death but the time has come to order a new tranny. I want to know which tranny you have and the pro's and con's about each one. The tranny i will be getting will have a triple disk, billet input, billet flexplate, and all the internals done. So throw me some info. Thanks

that was another one i am considering. I have talked with dtt, goerend, ats, and jeff at garmons. I just want some feedback on the tranny cause when spending 5000 dollars on a tranny, You want one you can depend on. Also, I want to know what i am paying for is in the tranny and not just being told it is in there and then something happens. I am just planning on a dd and weekend warrior truck. Nothing simple but Nothing out of this world.

Yeah i was leaning more towards the garmon tranny, jeff seems to be a straight shooter no bs just lets you know what you need.

I can only speak for a Garmon build so...

Since you're in NC.... Garmon's would be the way to go IMO. He built mine going on 4yrs ago and only recently I had to have the input replaced. That's many races and road miles without issue.

Phil who works out of his shop builds the converters to your specs or you can buy new. You also have the option of going to a Fat shaft which can only be had through a few dealers.

Bottom line is many shops can build a trans but, having one close is a bonus. I'm in WNC, if you need any more info let me know.

hey triton, i live in the nwnc about 35 mins south of the virginia line. Do you know if jeffs trannys has alll the good stuff in the internals and also is the vb setup a spec. valvebody or is he using valve body kits. You can pm me the info if you want

Your a bit north of me. I'm 10 mins north of the GA line but anyway... yes, you get all the good stuff in his builds.

He does use kits but, with his own twist. Some parts are special blends he uses in VB's to get them to work well. Your trans will be broken down completely cleaned and rebuilt. I don't believe the overdrive unit has anything done to it. He then puts it on a dyno to make sure all is good.

As you said, he's a straight shooter and will insist you not spend money on things you don't need.

Thanks triton, I gave jeff a call today and talked with him, so tomorrow i will give him a call and asked alittle more detail on his trannys (warranty, etc). Again, thanks for the reply

no problem. the link in my sig can tell you a little about what my trans has gone through. If he can build one to last like it has... it's well worth a visit to him. Just tell him what hp you're looking to have and what you plan on doing with the truck... pulling, racing. He can build it to suit from there.

I dont think you will find a better guy Than Jeff no excuses or anything he takes care of his customers an there needs
100 Percent bought my 2nd full billet from jeff hauled 18-26 k daily with it as well as playing around an when i sold it the buyer was curious if any damage or wear in it so jeff freshened it up no problems found now its running like a rapped ape in a 12v in texas ..

I think you should go with AAMCO!!!!

LOL

Garmon's all the way dude!!! You want the scoop, pm me...I'll be down there on Thursday.

Just curious, does jeff use suncoast stuff in his trans builds? we have a local guy, tim, that sounds just like how everyone is describing jeff, and he uses suncoast. everyone with one of tims trannys is more than happy and they get beat everytime theyre ran.

Very little is purchased from Suncoast anymore....But yes, Jeff will purchase a few parts here and there..

Converters are ALL by Phil Taylor, not suncoast! (of course the parts are purchased from suppliers that other buy from too. But some things are custom built in house by either Phil or Jeff)

Many parts Jeff uses he has specially made.

I can honestly say that there are a lot of things Jeffs does that is specific to his builds and none others use....Unless of course is copied...

But I will concead that there may be other things that the competitors use that Jeff doesn't.....All I can say is Jeff's build's are some of the best in the business and are in Many Many well known Fast Popular trucks...And are in Some that can't officially claim it due to have sponsorship with other companies that they don't want to embarass....

Fact, not opinion.....

If your that close to jeff's shop i'd definitley take it there, If you were closer to Georend i'd take it there, both build top notch trannys.

If you're close the Jeff, he will take good care of you.

But since I don't know exactly where you are, Tim Barber @ TRE Diesel builds a FINE auto too, I think still with DTT parts. He's in Virginia Beach, VA.

Just throwing it out there...Tim has taken excellent care of me...so if he's within a reasonable distance, you can't go wrong with him either;)

Chris

Heard nothing but good about Jeff's tranny's. I don't know the first thing about automatics, but was surprised to see no mention of SUNCOAST?
