So I have an intermitten problem. Most of the time my truck will drive fine, but every once and awhile my trans will not use 1st gear? It ususally only happens when the truck has been running for awhile, i turn it off and then start it back up 5 min later. The trans worked fine the first time, but now after I restarted it the trans doesn't want to use first. It tries to pull out in 2nd. If I manually put it in 1st then it will use 1st and I can shift to 2nd and drive.

Could this be an electrical problem that disconnecting my batteries would solve? Could this be an apps issue? Or maybe a VB issue?

Any help would be great.

Oh I tried using a smarty on my truck and this happened when I took it back off. For the record the smarty and the drag comp was an awesome stack!

Thank you,

Paul

2001 dodge ram 2500 dtt fully built trans, 4.5" lift, 37's, mach 4.5, bell usb, hrvp44, drag comp.

I assume you probably already have a voltage regulator... if you do it should be set at 4.6 volts. If your voltage is set at 4.6 try 4.1 and see if it works.

If that does not work then you could be having electrical problems in your under hood fuse box... I had that problem where in the fuse box under transmission relay I found corrosion that gave and unsteady voltage reading and caused 2nd or 3rd gear starts.... This does not sound like a DTT related problem... Its a lovely Dodge electrical problem that can be chased for weeks before resolved!

hope this helps, Lavon

I have two DTT boxes on my truck, one white and one black. Which one is the voltage reg? Where do I read the voltage?

I have removed my trans realy and have a jumper wire in its place for a TC lockup switch which I am going to remove anyway.

Thanks for the help,

Paul

According to my memory:

white -> voltage regulator (3 wires)

black -> TPS noise filter (2 wires)

To read voltage, you need multi tester. You must read voltage between battery + and voltage regulator red wire , and it should be around 4.6V

Might be the solenoids in the tranny. Cost a little bit from dodge but they take all of 30 minutes to swap out. Mine quit using 1st gear unless I manually shifted it and as soon as I swapped those it took care of the problem.

I have the SAME Exact problem. It shook bad when commin to a stop and while holding the brake it THEN would shift and kick the truck forward, but most of the time it just takes off in second and temps get really high.

I called the guy that built mine and he told me somethin about its reading pressure when it shouldnt be. He then told me to put a resistor in the Red pin of the transmission plug on the harness where it plugs into the solenoids inside or outside the pan. (inside to protect from corrosion) and that should take care of it. I'm currently doing other things to my truck and wont be able to drive for another few days to be certain this cleared it up. but the Part # from RAdio shack is 271-1109. Hope this helps out bein yours is a DTT
