I was talking to a buddy and he was telling me about the newer Duramax trucks and what they can do. Idk if he's full of **** or not because he does know some stuff about motors but not a whole bunch.

Anyway he said the 2007 up trucks can run 12's with only a tune and upgraded trans pump. he full of ****?

Your buddy is kind of right. Not sure which site but have seen a couple of dmaxes pretty deep in the 12's with stock chargers. Think they had lift pumps and more than just a transgo, but not sure. It might have been McRat site. EFI live gives the dmaxes a big edge. Stock charger and a mostly stock tranny will not like much of that kind of power. Have to have braces and sleeves on the front as well.

EFI will make tons of power but the Allison wont like the power your making and probably go into limp mode.

05Smokers brother ran 12s in his LMM with a tune, lift pump, and a Stock trans!

You beat me to it Johnboy. there is a few out there but like said trans wont stay around very long with those kind of numbers. Also another thing is we are starting to see some of the stock chargers fail / vanes sticking on these new trucks. My own personel LMM truck is heading back to the dealer for this same issue. If it keeps going back for this it will soon not have to worry about it b/c it will have a new drop in replacement

you can make any single rear wheel short bed duramax (2001-2008) run 12's with a stock turbo. The 2006+ duramax's are the easiest.

lift pump, trans, and front end braces.

It never limped on any of the passes (probably 5 or so total). It is built now though.

The 6 speeds tend to hold better at the track IMO. I tuned an LBZ CCSB that was running 13.5s consistently with a stock tranny and then it finally limped.

12's are extremely possible with all the tuning now a days. They say LBZ's and LMM's can hold more power than others with a transgo jr. but I don't buy that....a 12 second pass is alot of power going through a stock allison. Bottomline it can be done but can't be done for long or reliable amount of time.
Build the tranny and let her eat!

I've seen some LB7's go in the 12's with a trans lift pump and EFI tuning.

Oh yea that's no problem to do... we have a lot of trucks in the 12's but none on stock tranny.

even the newest dmax? (don't know the name of the motor...) i haven't been paying attention to the performance of any of the new trucks besides the 6.4 (thing is nasty...)

Once the trans is done that is where the fun begins.

Yep you bet. UNlike the other two diesels the dmax didnt have to be completely redesigned to meet 07 regs, its basically the same as the LBZ, so the aftermarket was already up to speed on it.

got it... i hadn't really heard anything about it... thanks for the info

True all models can go 12's with lp,tuning, and trans. I just wanted to stress that even the "old" Duramaxes are capable of 12 second passes.

Mine was running 12.71 @ 105mph before I twinned it. I've only made a few passes with the twins, but 11's should be in the near future, single stock CP3 & a lift pump.
