my dv's look like a needle and a seat

what are the correct terms used when talking about those two parts?

do they come from the factory as a matched set?

and are there any modifications that can be done to the 'seat' part?

thanks in adv

The "needle" part would be the delivery valve, the "Seat" part would be the delivery valve holder. From what I understand they can be swapped around and while they MAY be a matched set, mixing and matching is not an issue. Some people use the 131 holders with the 181 valves to flow a little more then a 181 setup alone. I personally just swapped the entire 131 assys out of my 160 pump and installed a complete set of 181 valves. Plenty of power can be made with factory delivery valves. How much power are you looking to make? There are aftermarket delivery valves available, but usually they are only "Needed" in the higher horsepower builds. I'm shooting for around 450 RWHP or so on my compound turbo (S362/S475) 160 pumped 12 valve swapped into my 1981 Chevy short bed. I'm sure there is plenty more power to be made before I need to swap out the deliery valves.

Or at least that's what I've been calling them

Have you been running them as shown? Im sure you noticed that the #5 set has the 131 style holder verses the others being 181's. Unless Im backwards on that, cant remember, either way thier a mis-matched set. I suppose it prob. wouldnt make a diff. though?

I thought it was the other way around. #5 was the 181 seat.

Ya looks like I was backwards, I really dont see much diff. in them besides the 181s having the belled bottom or mushroom seat. I remove the washers from under them anyways the diff. I suppose is the 181 has a bigger dia. but thinner sealing area and the 131 has the smaller dia. but wider seat, I think the 131 has more sealing surface..

After playing around with both seats in my spare pump I would personally lean towards the 181 style seat being superior and having more sealing area.

I could be wrong though as I have no scientific proof leaning one way or the other...

BTW - anybody have a bosch part number for either the 022 or 024 delivery valves? I wouldn't mind pricing a set through the local pump shop.

My reply in thread #3 has them. Dont know about the part number though.

Those are not from my truck, they are a picture that MAXTORQ took, I just borrowed it, thanks max.

That was also something I wanted to point out in the picture.

Here is a more informational picture. Remember they are not out of my truck, I borrowed the picture from here:

I know they have them, I just wanted to see what the local shop would charge me for them. Some things they are way higher than what I can find things online for and some things are way cheaper. Besides, it is fun to go in there asking for pump parts. The looks they give me are priceless.

which way are they supposed to be installed? does it matter?

i may or may not have installed the seats upside down...i cant remember now.

The "bell" on the 131 style seats goes down.

The "step" on the 181 style seats goes down.

I don't think you could get things together if either one of them was upside down, but it has been a while since I've looked at them.

O it's possible, I've had a couple in here where someone has put them in upside down. Didn't seem to affect it too much on the 181 seats, but it did on the 131 seats.

ok so the bigger part always goes down. next time i get a chance i will have to pull one out and see if i have then right or not.

No, the smaller part goes down on the 181 style seats.

dzlfarmboy, that's interesting information regarding getting them in upside down and what happens.
