ECM question

A friend of mine just bought an 02 dodge and the salesman said it has a chip in it. Well I looked and cant find a box in it, but im wondering if it had a programmer on it at one time and may still be in it. I did notice it has an hx40 turbo, so somebody has been in it before. Is it possible to have the ecm reflashed at a dealership? Or what would be the best way to make sure the computer is using the factory settings? He wants to put a drag comp on it, but I would like to make sure its ok to do so. It also smokes grey smoke alot at first start up for about 20 min in this cold weather.

Take it to a dealer and have it reflashed or borrow a smarty, load it and unload it, does about the same.
