Ok, did a lot of searching and I think I found my problem, jus want a few opinions to justify what I'm thinking. I have an 02 3/4ton 4x4 auto that has me pulling my hair out. So I was driving to San Antonio the other day and it starts to cut out and I get the dreaded "dead pedal". I get home, about 200 miles later and pull the codes and I get P1689, P1693, P1694, and P0216. So I go try to start it the next day, and nothing, bleed the lines, nothing, check the LP pre IP and I'm getting good fuel. So I go to my mechanic and get a spare pump he has lying around and change it out. While I'm at it I go and put a new LP on just for insurance. Bleed the lines and runs for about 1minute then dies. Try again runs about another minute and dies again. Try again and runs for about 3 minutes then dies. So I go check for fuel in the filter housing and it is filling jus fine. Then I check for fuel at the IP and get fuel there to. Get fuel to #1 and #3 so try starting it again and now no start. So I went off a hunch thinking it was a dead VP due to the fact it has 155000 miles on the stock one. Now I can't even get it to start. Does this sound like the ECM? I have check all the connectors at the LP and IP and all are fine. Checked the fuel pump relay and swapped it with the wiper relay, which are the same and the wipers will work with the fuel pump relay and still nothing. I also changed the fuel filter as well. This truck is bone stock. ANY and ALL opinions is welcomed here. I have also jus put new batteries on last week. I don't think its the TPS, because the RPM's are not jumpy at all. Crank sensor?? TPS??? ECM??? I'm clueless!

Could be man. I know that the 1689 is no communication between Ecm and injection pump. Make sure all of your grounds are good as they will cause this code.

Small chance its a ECM, everytime I've seen a 0216 code, it was in fact a dead or dieing VP.

The main one for the Ecm hooks to the passenger side battery. Make sure that has a good connection then just check all that go to the block and frame

Anybody have anymore ideas for me? I'm gonna check all the grounds tonight when I get home. Ill entertain all ideas at this point.

Here is a suggestion from years ago by Piers to determine if the VP is dead:

VP test

Disconnect the plug from the back of the VP44. where the red wire goes in attach a jumper lead to it. Find where the black wire goes in & connect a jumper wire to it {this is on the pump, not the plug} now take the wire that you hooked up to the red & put it to the positive post on the battery. Hook the other wire {black} to the negative post. If the VP44 is still alive, the truck should fire and idle. It won't rev up & it will set a CEL, but that will tell you if the VP is still alive & you have other problems or if it won't start, the VP44 is dead

Also, the 02 ECMs have been reported as short lived. Perhaps Dodge tried to save too many cents. In any case; I have an 00 that I will be programming for my 02 when I get around to it, so I will likely have a spare 02 ECM if you need one. I will need your information to program in the correct software since mine is currently programmed for a manual tranny.

Thanks for the help ol blue. I may jus be interested in your ECM. When will you have it ready and where do you program them? I'm letting the batteries charge up the I will try the jumper method. I'm on call for work so if I have time I will let you know how it goes.

Also a little update. I read the codes again after I check all grounds, being that I took off the battery cables and they changed a little bit. I know have a 1693, 1689, 0230, and a 0216. I now have a transfer pump code. I bumped the key a few times and I can tell that my lift pump isn't fueling like it should. Its missing real bad. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge as of right now for it but I think my mechanic may have one. I'm still getting fuel to the #1 and #3, but still no start. This is a new IP and LP on. I'm still taking suggestions.

I had the exact same problem I changed fuel pump and it didn't help changed the ECM and runs fine now
I determined the ECM was bad by lightly tapping the ECM with a screwdriver handle with the ignition on. When I tapped it relays would cycle indicating there was a bad circuit inside the ecm

Also for a little update. I checked all grounds and all looked good. After I did that I checked the codes again to see if I had a change in them and I did. I lost the 1694, but I still have the 1693, 1689, 0216 and now I have 0230. Remember, this is a new LP and a new IP. So I go ahead and bump the truck since I took the battery leads off to clean up the post, and I notice that the lift pump is not sending a steady stream of fuel to the IP. You can hear it pick up and the quit. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge, but I'm sure I can get my hands on one soon. I also cracked the lines and I'm still gettin fuel to the #1 and #3. So I try to start it and it doesn't even try to start at all. I'm still taking any suggestions and help guys. Thanks

Smoketruck, did your truck start acting weird or did it jus stop one day out of the blue?

I see this is an older post, but I have a truck with the 1689 code and it won't start. I know it's a no communication code, the truck ran fine and then just up and quit. Lift pump press is fine, but injection pump doesn't seem to be fueling right. I get lots of air at the lines and some fuel. Some of the lines I get nothing at all. I could use some help if anyone can, but I am gonna try the jumper wires to the injection pump
