Whats the difference between this turbo and say just a regular box unit? other than the fact it has a race cover and is a "E.D. brand turbo"? what sets them apart
 
This is what was said by a turbo builder.
"The fitment of the John Deere turbo onto your truck is minor compared to how it'll run on there. The turbo was designed to operate on a much larger displacement engine with a much lower boost level. The Internet likes to make people think this is an awesome alternative to buying a charger that at least had some thought put in it to running in our applications. The large displacement produces a good sized pulse wave to drive this turbo to its relatively low boost level in the mid teens. Put this on a small displacement high boost application and you fight to get it going only to run into a very high compressor load. They lag until the drive spikes then they surge. Till they break. But hey it was cheap. You can buy another one with all the money you saved. Bummer the Internet doesn't talk about that. Maybe because they don't have to spend money later, you do."
