What year trucks do they come in.

Are they different then the 12v & 24v, I see
people talking about.
Sorry for the questions, I am wanting to learn
more about these and I need a start.

Thanks in advance for your help? :Cheer:

The common rail Cummins started in 2003 and came in three flavors:

CA 235hp/460 47re or nv4500
SO 250/460 47re or nv4500
HO 305/555 nv5600 only

2003.5
The 48re auto became an option behind all motors.

2004.5
The advent of the 600 series, engine gained a third injection event, slightly better air flow in the head, a larger compressor and a cat amongst other things. These engines were rated at 325/600 for all 50 states and are considered a little thirsty than the 03-04 but seem to have an easier time hitting 500rwhp.

The biggest difference between the CR and the older motors is the fuel injection system, the common rail uses a Bosche CP3 high pressure fuel pump, which is not a disturber pump like the VE, VP44 or P7100, rather it feeds a rail at very high pressure (20-26,000 psi) and individual solenoids fire each injector. Currently Common Rails do seem to lack the high RPM capability of the the p-pumped trucks but are starting to get the attention of dirty dozen drivers, with many trucks over 800rwhp.

Hope some of this helps....

Thanks for your time, and help. I am interested in what everyone is using to
start with for swaps. Easiest to make good power and be dependable.

Thanks!
