Effects of the crank gear slipping?

I am having a brain fart here trying to figure out what the effect the crank gear key wearing and allowing the gear to rotate on the crank would have on the cam. Would it be advancing or retarding the cam? I will be degreeing the cam tomorrow but just trying to get an idea tonight.

Pretty sure it would be retarding the cam but hey that's just my simple mind at night. LOL Crank gear slips, cam doesn't see how far the crank really is, and cam comes late, just my thought.
