Long story short, I have a friend that recently purchased an STS turbo kit for his 02 2500 with the 8.1 gas hog. He knew i was planning on buying efi live for my lbz and asked if i thought i could help tune his truck. Given that I haven't bought live yet, it's a bit overwhealming trying to learn diesel and gas at the same time. I know that it's possible but i was wondering if any of the live guru's might have some help for me in the near future or if there might be some recommendations as to where i could find some help. Any helpful insight is much appreciated.

Forced induction on a gas is a different animal. With a diesel you add some fuel, maby a little timming, play with the MAF and off you go. Kind of hard to screw anything up if you use your head. With a gas, if it's not right it won't run for long before the motor is junk. It is hard to tune something like that with out having it on a dyno to get it pretty close. The company that they bought the turbo kit from should know it needs to be tuned and should have provided a base tune to get it running and get it to a good tunner. We just did a supercharger on an 06' corvette and it came with a base tune so we could get it to the tunner. It was $400 well spent at the dyno for a couple of hours and then tuned even further on the street. If you don't have a base tune of some kind don't even think about starting it. You will have an instant 8.1L paper weight.

Thanks for the reply, just the kind of answer I was looking for. This tuning delima all goes back to buying it from e-bay and it's a universal kit, not specifically designed for the truck. I guess from this point he's better off to get the Predator tune that the company made for the truck, and then go from there. Thanks again.

look up the holden web site. alot of good LSx tunes and tech guys in there.
or ls forums

EFI can tune it. Bought it should be done on a dyno. It is very easy to go lean or add to much timing and go BOOM! Been there done that. A hand held will be no better IMHO. The truck needs to be put on a dyno with a wide band and professionally tuned.
