EGT Install Labor Rates

Curious what some yawl paid to have an EGT probe installed. One shop quoted me $180.00 just to take the manifold off, drill,tap & install the probe. Than another $60.00 to install the guages I.E. EGT & Boost.:doh:

Go buy a tap and drill bit and do it yourself, it's easy. And by the way you DON'T need to remove the manifold to drill it. After you're done just start the engine and let it idle for 15 seconds, any shavings that are in there will slowly go right down the ehhaust pipe and cause no harm. If you have any questions let us know.

If your going to do it yourself have the engine running at idle while drilling the manifold. This will blow any chips out of the drill bit before they ever get into the manifold. Make sure to use all safety precautions when doing this.

I agee with both statements. If I may add, a pilot hole and a drop of oil may help. Whatever you do ---> Wear Safety Glasses <--- and have some help if possible. I think there is a "how too" in here somewhere?
