I cracked my previous head that was on the engine when it was ppumped! I had to find a good used one and had a valve job done and fire ringed. I didnt have a egt gauge that went over 1600 degrees before so i dont know how hot it was acually getting when i did the damage. And the fuel was out of the bowl pretty good with SO pistons, so im guessing i was i the low 30 degrees on timing.

That been said im thinking the higher the timing the more heat in the hole, than lower timing or does it not play that big of a roll in how hot it gets?

Im going back to a vp and when the truck was vp before i had a tst on it without a timing box and the tst seem like it was showing high 1600 when i would make a hard run. I took the head off right before i ppumped it and the head was in great shape no cracks.

I was wondering what some of u that have high egt's that has had the head off and didnt hurt the head was running on egt's and what was u running ( fuel box, fuel and timing, or just timing box?

I was thinking keep it below 1800 on say a 15 second run?

Iv got the engine back in and want to run the engine on the lean side but i am afraid to get it over 1250 degrees lol!
