I know pretty much everyone i have talked to buries the pyro on a hook and doesn't worry about it....I can't really see this not being an issue? I know when i have pulled that by 100' or so its pretty well hitting 1400+ and i try not to look at it after that

Not to *bdh* but i'm kinda interested in hearing some input on this as it has always bothered me, can't afford to melt down a motor and i'm sure its not too much to worry about i never seen anyone melt down a motor on the track but it still concerns me. Can anyone offer a comforting word on that or advice to keep it cool to a safe level? Is everyone i see rolling heavy coal spraying water/meth and i just need to turn the fuel down or what? I know my injectors ain't helpin things much there but many others run them.
I don't pull every weekend but like to hook a few times a year and have some fun :woohoo:
Thanks
Eric

I saw 1900-1950 this last weekend for a probably 200 feet of the pull according to the logger.

wow... no worries with that? I know everyone says it won't hurt anything for a few moments but i can't get past my head that by all rights "IT AIN'T GOOD!" is there a certain time limit on it to overheat safely? Any ideas? I'm a worry-wort about that stuff i know lol
Thanks

Visualize putting a torch to a chunk of steel. Does it melt right away? It is a inverse intensity/time thing.

You can melt the engine at 1350 EGT, but you have to have them there for awhile, and you can melt the engine at 2000.

The 1950 is higher than I usually run. I am trying to get it back to 1700 or so.

Yeah and you can also run your finger across a lighter for a second without burning your finger. But if your trying to bring down the temps, loose the Full Cuts and go with a 191. .024 DV.
