I was told that the fan clutch on the cr is electronic and will throw codes if disconnected. Are any of you out there running electric fans on a commonrail? If so how much cfm do you need to run through the radiator? I dont really want to spend 500 on flex-a-lites kit and i can build my own shroud.

I just unplugged mine and have no codes, I would shoot for a least 5000cfm if memory serves, the flex-a-lite set I have is lower than the factory clutch but keeps my truck cool no problem, even with heavy trailers.

I'm still puzzled on how they work but they really do work. My buddy is running one on his 900hp CR and it never budges off of 185* even in our summer heat.

Your not the only one, I ordered mine on a whim when the factory clutch went south and it was not much more to go electric. After ordering I started doing the math on the CFM differences , I though I was going to regret doing it. I really didn't expect them to keep my truck cool when loaded, turns out first instinct was correct, I love my setup, but dont get how they work so well. The cool part about the kit is variable speed, so they don't turn full speed unless needed, and its a super easy install.

Ya. They are like half the CFM rating of the factory fan but yet seem to cool them just fine.

Thought my factory one was bad a few months ago but it wssnt just dirty connector, factory was $419 and only get it at dealer ship. Flex lite is a shade over 500

On my 04 it will throw a code (not sure if a check engine light comes on as I don't have one). I don't think it affects anything though?

I ran for a few weeks with out the fan hooked up on my Excursion.

I've got the Flex-A-Lie kit on my conversion....never ges hot...ever.
There is a code for the fan but it doesn't cause any ill effects.
