i have been searching for electric fans to replace it for my fan clutch but nobody seems to make a kit , has anybody done this upgrade and what kind of fans did you guys use.

i go back and forth about this with doug from gogodiesel at least once a week. I have seen the 7.3 one been used on a 6.0. It just seems that if you arent gonna go twins why bother? I know for me to spend 500+ on a fan isnt worth it right now. Id rather spend it on something else but idk your set up..and dont get me wrong an electric fan under there would be sweet and seem to cool better IMO

I run the Flex-a-lite fans for the 7.3L on my truck. Part #278. All you have to do is modify the mounting brackets for the 6.0L rad and you are good to go. I don't think they cool as well as the stock fan in the extreme heat but I like them. You would be amazed at how much more room their is under the hood with the electric fans.

I don't see how you can cool the thing if you're pulling any weight...especially if it's hot.

Thoughts of Danny running to the local stream come to mind!

Local? Try me and David Lott taking turns running down the side of a cliff filling up 2 water bottles we got out of our care package. :D

I'm running Danny's old Flex-A-Lite #278 7.3 kit on my 6.0 radiator to cool my 5.9 Cummins. LOL
I would not tow with this set-up..but it keeps it extremely cool for what I do with it.
It hovers around 180* on the highway and will get as high as 195* if I'm in traffic for 15 minutes or so....I haven't seen it get any higher.

The AC is noticably colder when I'm sitting still.

I did upgrade both fans in it though. The originals were bad so I replaced them with extra heavy duty Hayden fans. I was kinda surprised when I did the swap...I thought I'd have to fab new motor mounts for the fans but they bolted right in except for having to enlarge the holes they fit in...even the Hayden fan blades were an exact fit in the Flex-A-Lite shroud.

Can't say that I do...they were just off-the-shelf fans supposedly built for trucks...I got them at Pep Boys then dissected them down to the motors and blades.
The only reason I did it was that I ws gonna have to order the Flex-A-Lite replacement motors for 150 bucks each and those I was pretty sure would work...for about 120 bucks each and no wait.

Do you remember the size of them?

I might get creative, and build a custom fan set. (Would like to cover as much of the rad as possible.)

15 or 16"....honestly can't remember, Ivan.
They were the biggest thing on the shelves.
Y'all got Pep Boys up there ?

thank you guys for the ideas , i was thinking about getting flex-a-lite dual fans just the universal ones but im trying to figure out how many cfm the fans have to push to keep the 6.0 cool.

wouldnt you have to have some kind of controller to make the fans come on at a certain temp or you going to just have them on all the time.

i had the kit for my chevy gasser that had a controller that made the fans a variable speed depending on the engine temps.

The Flex-a-lite kit comes with a control box and a temp probe that you put into the fins on the radiator. I think that would be the biggest hurdle if fabbing your own.

Like Richard said, if you are just a street comber, then these would be great, but if you tow at all, it would not be recomended. They just can't move the air that a mechanical fan can at the lower speeds and higher revs...
