so i am in the process of starting my engine build right now. it will be a complete build, but i do have a budget limit. things the truck has now and i will probably stay with are: II K31 turbo, II dragon flow sticks, II 12mm pump to be changed to a 13mm, 60lb springs, billet pushrods, 12mm head studs, fire ringed head, scheid street cam, and of coarse the auto trans.

this is what i am thinking of for new parts: scheids .020 over arias pistons 15.1 with valve release and coating, girdle for the bottum, stock rods, balanced crank and assembly, arias hellfire rings.

still not sure of main studs, and i am thinking of larger fuel lines. also thinking of a size larger sticks. the truck is not a dd any more, 2.8 sled pulling class and drags now. maybe an occasional my truck is faster than yours. i do want the truck to rev to or over 5k

anything missing or things that i can consider before i order parts. any and all thoughts are appreciated. thanks

If you can stay with the stock bore that would be better and double valve springs with titanium retainers and port polish the head since you are in there

Run some marine pistons cut and coated, total seals, HD Rod bolts, main studs, girdle, the flows will be fine IMO.

Dammmmit man! I'm never going to keep up with you now!:bang

don't be cheap squeek if your gunna do what you keep talkin about at the shop. don't cut your self short on the bottom and internal's. then you won't have to have the thought in the back of your head "should of done it" you will sleep better at night!!!!!!!

if your going to gridle you have to use main studs or are you going to make one out of cardboard

the head was a new cast as of last april, so it doesnt have many miles on it, but it has seen some heat. it is not ported or polished, but that will also be done. i will do the main studs also, after hearing opinions, might as well do it once. heavier rod bolts yes.

i am starting to think a little harder on the pistons. the only thing that i am a little concerned about is the spray angle with a center bowl that scheids has, instead of the offest bowl. also i need to know how much to have the pistons fly cut, since the deck will probably need to be machined a bit. the cylinders will most likely have to be bored also. they were pretty bad. i will try to put up pics of them.

do the marine pistons have the offset bowl? i didnt think of these first.

so you would stay with the flows and not the supers?

it will be a sweet biuld when its done. im trying to get pics up now but i cant figure it out. ill show you why i have to do it.

so here is what the engine looked like with the head off

cylinder 6

cylinders 1,2,3

Too much timing (incorrect spry angle) + valve and piston contact

18* timing so not too much of that. dragon flow injectors for a 12v so not that. i will know the cause on monday or tuesday next week what the machine shop thinks was the cause. we have a pretty good idea though

What all do you have to do to run the marine pistons? Looking for reliability and strength to handle 500+ hp in a daily driver.

found out the cause of the valve slap on the pistons any why the rings blew. i bought a cam in november to put in, and it was bent .010, in a U shape, which we didnt know. thus the cause of the valve slap on piston 1, and diminishes towards piston 6. talking to Van Haisley, and with the valve hitting the pistons, it jared the head just enough to break the fire rings. so now i am also going to have to get another cam.

guess that just means that i get to do a little more for this build. should be getting the first of the parts next week. the good thing is that the block only has to get honed, not bored over.
