well guys I finally got my engine set back in the truck. now mind you at this point in time I'm just hooking up the bare essentials to see if the ol' girl will fire. this means one battery with the ground cable on passenger's side grounded to the block. Grid heater disconnected. Basically the minimum needed cuz if i end up having to pull it again there won't be much I need to do.

Before the engine was taken out it started up perfectly each and every time. Cam sensor was on its way out which I replaced with a brand spanking new one during the rebuild. With the engine just set back in the truck I plugged the two large connectors that are up against the firewall. These I take it are for the connection between the ecm and pcm. plugged Injection pump back in, hooked up the starter cable. hooked cable from power on batt to power post in distribution block. same thing with ground for distribution block. Now I grounded the battery to the block as it was before.

Now when I go to crank the ol' girl it does just that...cranks. The codes I get are P1687 which means no ccd messages are being received from the instrument cluster and P1694 which means a bus communication failure to pcm. anybody have any pointers on where to start diagnosing this bi*tch?

Also I forgot to mention this engine has been sitting for two months with the ecm and pcm disconnected with no power because I couldn't afford all the parts at once. So if anybody has anything to offer for me to try to diagnose this feel free to. I don't care how simple or stupid it seems to be I'll give it a shot.

Its got to be a ground, when I rebuilt mine, I thought I had everything hooked up and when I turned the key on I got a NO BUS signal. Only thing I did different was I removed my passenger side battery for more room and also took off the hot and ground wires that ran to the battery.

Well I didn't realize that the pcm grounds into the pass side battery ground. I just put the ground cable back on, not even on the battery and it started no problem.

I would go through the wiring harness checking for loose grounds.

thanks man I'll sure do that. i'm sure you're right about the grounds. no problems before the rebuild. ill go through the harness today and report back with what I find:thankyou2:

well guys i also forgot to mention that i had two other codes along with p1684 and P1687. I also have the two codes for the throttle sensor P0122 and P0123. funny thing is I hooked the passenger side battery up as far as the negative cable is concerned and now the engine starts just better than it ever has, however I still have all the codes listed in this postLOL:owned::owned: so this definitely is giving me a chuckle. although I would rather be able to drive it lol anywho if anybody has something for me to check by all means post and I'll do that. gonna go over my grounds and check that out again.
