How can you tell? Mine is on even while running 70mph down the freeway and once it's engaged it doesn't shut off until you shut the truck off. Sound like mine is going out?

if its all all the time then its prolly shot but i am not sure havent had a problem with mine

That's what I'm thinking. Everyone I've talked to said there's never kicks on unless towing and mine runs constantly. Guess it's time to buy one of those now.

How much is a fan clutch?

I have seen some electric fan kits for around $450 in the classifieds. Should be good for all the highway driving you do.

Yep, it's probably shot. Pretty common thing. They usually either stick on, or they don't come on at all.
I don't remeber the cost for a new one.

Ya. O'reilly's wants $101 for a new one. I'm on the phone with cummins as we speak.

Can't be helping in the mileage or hp departments thats for sure.

Mileage is horrible. 13.5. And that's with only 40 miles of city on the whole tank. Normally it's 16 or 17.

Cummins said that the fan clutch comes with the truck, not the motor. Dodge wants $260 for it. Looks like I'll be stopping by o'reilly's later today.

The fan is not supposed to spin all the time? My truck is a 97 and the fan is always spinning when the truck is running?

Spinning, yes. Fully engaged, no. There's a big difference between the two.
