Alright... Does anyone have any dirt dug up anywhere as to why a Wix 33405 won't replace a Donaldson P558000?
This is all on a platinum 95 FASS.

The filter P558000 is a 20 micron cross reference for the water seperator on the HD series. The 33405 is a 14 micron cross reference for the water seperator on the HD series as well. Below are some suggested filters. Let me know if you need any info on the filters.

Fuel/WS ( 1-14)
Carquest 86005 (3M)
Caterpillar 1752949 (3M)
Donaldson P169096 (5M)
Donaldson P550847 (3M)
Donaldson P551313 (2M)
Donaldson P553203(3M)
FASS FWS-3003(3M)
Racor B32004S(2M) w/ bowl
Racor S3204 (2M) Filt. Only
Wix 33005 (3M)
Wix 33407 (5M)

Thank you for that response! As I see it, it's not gonna hurt to go down to a 2 micron filter correct? Are all of these listed above going to fit my FASS? I'm assuming that's how you meant it but I've assumed wrong before as well.

Correct those are the filters that will work on the Platinum. Let me know if you need anything.

I would steer clear of all WIX filters, and their rebrands. They never seem to meet the specs of the filter they cross. If you look they are 2um nominal, who knows what they are absolute. Nominal is also not an exact percentage, so a screen door could be considered 2um nominal.

Of the few Wix filters that have published absolute ratings they are all lower than the filter they replace.

Here is the page from FASS, but even that has some inaccuracies in it.

The P551311 and P551313 have identical media in them (the P551311 is longer, that's the only difference), they are rated at 3um absolute and are NOT f/w sep's. They are a particulate filter only.

Disregard all the NAPA and WIX part numbers, even if they had the correct particulate rating WIX will not release the f/w separation rates, a little fishy if you ask me.

So if you want the ultimate in f/w separation and particulate filtration your options are the 3um absolute Donaldson P553203 or the Racor B3204S.

Ok so this may be an ignorant as all get out question but should I be running a filter element only or a water separator? My factory filter housing is still in play as well.

The 33405 wix filter is a no go. I had a hard time getting it to seal and I thought my fp was acting up but chocked it up to me be paranoid. Wake up this morning to a puddle of fuel under my truck. I'll be returning to the Donaldson most likely this time until next time when I will probably run cat.

Well... The cat filter 175-2949 is no good. I'm gonna guess from what happened, it's to short.

Do you have reference information for the FASS-95Series filters? I currently have a FF2003 and WS2001 on there. I would like to go to a 2 or 3 micron filter.

Thanks

anyone running a Bio-Tek filter ..... I have one in my F250 and its 5Mic. works great and long service too .....

is it really necessarry to run a 2 mic filter ..... ur injector hole are much bigger than that and 5 is damn small anyways ..... seems really over kill to drop below 5 ..... and then theres the pressure on ur pump to push through the restriction of such a small orfice as 2 mic...IMHO of course

So tell me, how much time and money would you have saved had you just ordered a replacement from FASS? :hehe:

Well when fass have me the list if filters I've used... I feel I've done no screw up. I think one if the previous wix was my fault. However the cat was to short and wouldn't let the pump move any fuel.

I believe the tolerance on the CR injectors is around 2um between the needle and seat.

There isn't a way to accurately label a filter a 2um anymore, 3um is the best rating it can receive.

Bosch wants a minimum of 5um absolute, if you can meet that then you are doing good. Going a little better than minimum isn't a bad idea.

4x4manonbroke, what model filter do you use?

I'm running bio-tek bio glass media filter ..... designed with bio diesels in mind ........

Ok ....its a Bio-tek brand 70234 made by cim tek filtration ...... 5 micron 25 gpm max flow..... good up to b100 fuels..... same filters I have seen @ the biodiesel pump here locally ..... each pump @ station has 2 filters one is 20 mic, and the other is the same ine I am running .... 5micron. .... hope this helps ya all been a great filter for me ..... and real inexpensive .... I think 18 $ for one ....but hell I run waste oil and waste atf and B5 and I can run all year and only change 1 filter ........ I do recommend these filters to everyone ..... if u need some PM me and I will get u a filter and housing price and such ......thinking about becoming a dealer for them .... there that good
