Tach likes to just jump all over a few seconds when first driving. Intermittent but semi common. I'm thinking ground issue or some sensor?

Sometimes idling around, or light cruising low rpm, engine will get jerky like its chugging out or jump up a few rpms on its own All of a sudden always randomly. Again I'm thinking sensor or dying vp.

Any ideas on anything?

crank sensor, even without a check engine light it might throw a crank sensor code... my buddies truck used to stall on the highway with no check engine lights, ran the OBD and saw a crank sensor code, replaced it and its been fine ever since. if not that check the ground on your PCM, mine used to rev itself pretty bad, replaced the APPS, grounded the apps ground to the battery, nothing worked until i found that PCM ground loose, tightened her up and got rid of most of it, replaced the alternator and that took care of the rest. and I thought I was the only one with a cummins that drove itself

Yea man no doubt, I just bought the truck a few months and its got a few problems. Mainly this. I figured electrical so I checked all battery terminals, cleaned them up, still not right.

Does any have pics of there battery wiring. This trucks got like 4 hots hooked to it, and it looks like ****, 1 wire goes into a little power box of some sort (pcm?) Then 2 little black wires prolly 12ga, all stripped back clamped down in a autozone special battery end.

Where's the best place to buy that sensor?

had a 99 come in with same intermittent jerky/surge issue, it was a dying VP, does it happen when you hit bumps? because the 99 that came in the shop mainly did it when the truck hit a large bump, other times it would just do it cruising, also truck would sometimes shut off.
