My truck has a fiberglass hood & I am wondering what needs to be done to pass tech?

depends on your rules. If the rules you go by are anything like ours and most others you will need to put a metal hood on your truck. It also depends on the class, some will allow fiberglass hoods, but you will need a metal sheild around the turbo.

Your best bet is to read the rules for the class and association your going to pull with.

Thats what I'm wondering. Is there a certain [average] rule that most organizations go by.....like "turbo shield must be made of 14g metal"? Or "Shield must be bolted on 4 corners" etc.? Just wondering what others have come across in tech?

I have a perfect stock hood..... & I'm looking for a fiberglass.....

NADM 2.6, 2.8, super street rules
Metal aftermarket hoods are permitted. Fiberglass is prohibited. The hood must be closed and securely latched while the vehicle is hooked to the sled.

NADM modified rules
If fiberglass body panels are utilized forward of the firewall, a
.060” steel or aluminum shield extending the full length of the engine from the top of the
frame rail to a level equal to the deck height or the top of the fender well, whichever is
greater, must be in place. Shielding must be installed around the turbo and will be
inspected by the NADM technical department for sound construction and installation

This is what most rules will say.

Thanks man. I was going to build a shield of some sorts, but by the looks of things.....they still won't pass anyways.

i think that if you took the time to build a decent and sturdy shield thats mounted over the turbo to shield it, that the techs may pass it. Or maybe find a way to mount a sheet metal liner on the bottom side of your hood.

better than the guys who try to cheat the rules by putting a cable on the back of the truck for an "air shut off" but the cable isnt attached to anything...even tho they look legal.

I was thinking of doing that. It would be hard to get a exact fit to the bottom of the hood though.

I wonder if it depends on how the hood is constructed if they will say anything. I have a harwood hood on my truck been pulling it for 5 years
I have not had anyone say anything yet. I has 2 layers of fiberglass
and seems to me it should be just as strong as a steel hood.

My hood has dual scoops & is dual layered. Right above the turbo, there is 4 layers of fiberglass counting the dual layered scoop.
