Are there any tricks/tips you all have for installing the head with fire rings on an '01 Cummins? The heads at the machine shop now, just curious how to keep the fire rings in place as the head is installed. It's going to be studded at the same time.

Thanks for the help.

I have not personally, but I read people use a dab of superglue on each side of the ring to hold them in place.

I put one stud in the block on the front and one the back slide the gasket over the studs and use the gasket to hold the rings in place.

I put a thin and even coat of Gorilla Glue in the entire groove, set the rings in with something on top of them to hold them flat and even, let it cure while we prepped the block and it went great! Don't use super glue though IMO we tried on the #1 cylinder and it came out just by barely touching it lol.

I used axle grease or you can use vasoline to keep them in place while your setn it down on to your block

I fell into a burning ring of fire once...

Scheid's was saying we had to go to 150ft/lb to get the proper crush and 14mm studs in order to do that.

I went 120, then 130, then 140 to be safe, all with some heat cycles. I blew my head gasket once and wanted to make dang sure that it wuznt goin anywhere. some called me crazy but its worked so far.

well i was wondering the same, head will be remove next weel and send to machinist to groove the head....
Is it better to deck the head than do the groove or do the groove say .005 deeper and deack the head .005 ???
