So I am planning to hook to the sled for the first time this weekend with my 2005 F250 6.0L. For those of you sled pulling (small number I'm sure) with the 6.0, what can you tell me?

1) Whos program are you running?
2) Gear Selection? Take me through your pull.
3) Any warnings? Past broken parts?
4) 4Low Correct?

Lay it on me. And for those of you veteran pullers, any advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

4lo turn off over drive and slowly start pushing the hand throttle forward.......

Dammit, no hand throttle.

LOL A hand throttle? That could be handy . . .

Also, no way to turn overdrive off on the 5R110 tranny from Ford. You have Drive 1, 2, 3, and D. It's a five speed auto. If I put the truck in 2nd or 3rd it starts off in that gear. "D" position allows for overdrive. Very strange but it's what I'm stuck with. I just had the 6.0 gods send me over a tune though that should let the tranny shift up to 3rd and hold. Gonna try that out and see.

Hoping to make half track! :hehe: See ya tomorrow!

Dear Anthony,

I'll bring the hitch you can borrow....
You just bring the tissue

:shake:
(Oh who am I kidding...I just really wanted to drop that line. See ya tomorrow, bud.)

LOL I see how it is . . . Pick on the new guy. LOL I appreciate you loaning this green puller your hitch. Hopefully it doesn't mind being stuck in the *** end of Ferd. ;-)

Hey, if it's pouring rain like they say it's supposed to are we gonna have mud drags in some vacant field in Newman??? :drive:

1) I see you have an SCT, use the highest Hp file you got.

2) Others may not agree, but I run 4hi 1st gear all the way. You want a combination of wheel speed, momentum, and power. It's called friction pulling. You must pre-boost. I usually launch around 2,000-2,200 RPM's. Since you have an auto, think of your brake as your clutch. You don't want to let it of all at once. Walk the sled out a little, and if you feel good bite; drop the hammer.

3) These coil sprung front ends like ours are known for bouncing. That's why you need to walk the sled a little and work the brake. I've come off the line real hard before and bounced my front end several times. I have never broken anything yet, but I do have a small leak on my front driverside axle seal. Getting consistent launches takes practice.

4) 4lo is up to you. I've heard of some guys who will run 4lo 2nd, then drop it in to 4lo 3rd, and when the sled starts coming up on them they drop it back into 2nd. I would not do this unless I had a built tranny, but there are some who do it anyway.

Hope this helps.

i run 3rd low it gives me about 23 mph wheel speed down the track. if it is a ower track my rpms will drop to 3000 it working the truck hard. tire pressure around 32 to 36 in front and 50 to55 in rear. i m also running blocks that limit my susp to only 2" travel. come out easy and put you foot though the floor at 15 to 20 feet

Thanks to the everyone for the information. Unfortunately the event was canceled do to rain. ;-( I had a new SCT file sent to me for Sled Pulling which is basically just my race tune with the rev limiter and shift points raised a bit over stock. Guess my first hook will have to wait.

I was not aware there was the differing opinions on 4hi v's 4Lo? Anyone have any more thoughts or opinions on this???

Thank GOD it was cancelled. I would have hated for you to have to go back home crying in your beer that your Frod's ass had been kicked by two girls in dodges LOL There's always next time Mr... just wait, you shant be disappointed. Too bad your weekend was ruined by rain ;)
