Flexplate

According to the microfiche there is a collar/ring that the flexplate bolts go through first before going through the flexplate and into the crank. I don't see them in pics of billet flexplates. Is it needed when using a laminated flexplate?

Yes. So it's needed? Seems like the stock bolts would start getting a little short?
 
None of the aftermarkets use the spacer/plate/round thingy.

A lot of the aftermarket flex plates/torque converter setups, will cause the flex plate bolts to hit the torque converter, if the ring is used.
