Front Drive shaft question

I have a u-joint bad on my front drive shaft. The affected u-joint is on the assembly that attaches to the transfer case. I have heard a couple of things about this assembly.

1. It is called a constant velocity joint and is very hard to rebuild correctly, if you don't know the correct assembly sequence.

2. It is as simple as removing the bad u-joint, and replacing with a new one.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

rebuilding the cv end is a giant pain in the c*nt

but can be dun

I just had mine rebuilt. All new joints at both ends cost me 120 bucks. I've done it before an i'd much rather pay someone else to fight it.

take'n it apart is easy... best bet when putting it back together, is install the caps onto the u joint on the d-shaft end, and on the flange end... then sit the flange on a block or ur bench on it's side, andkinda lay it all together, then rotate the d-shaft end into the H shaped peice as you line up the "ball and cup" assembly in the middle.... once it is in position, carefully install the caps in 1 side, then roll it to the other and be very gentle when ur tapping..

I just did one last week, they can be a pain but arent that bad if you take your time. and have a press...

I had mine removed and the driveshaft redone to be used with Spicer 1410 u-joints.

i was using wd40, a hammer 2 sockets and some blocks of wood..... can be done very easily actually
