Hey Guys- Just wondering if anyone has a good cure for wheel hop when pulling? Yesterday was only my second hook with the truck and durring the first pull I experianced a bit from 25feet to 100feet but then it cleared up. On this pull it was pretty well the whole 300 feet but I held into it. It wasn't that the whole truck was bouncing (inside it was actually quite smoth) but in the video you can see the axle jumping ALOT!)

Here is the Vid http://youtube.com/watch?v=9PjQlcBVhRk

The suspension is custom built and I am using a set of 2005 Ford Trailing arms custom mounted to a Dodge D60 front end.

I am thinking I should just add an extra shock or two per side on the trailing arms and see what happens...Anyone else have any other advice...

If your still using the Ford bushings up front that's probably the problem. Lubeowner or BBunting could give you more on this.

Are you refering to the bushings where the trailing arms are attached to the axle? if so...they were custom made for my truck by Energy Suspension. The one where the trailing arm mounts to the frame though is the stock Ford Bushing. I will PM both of them though and see whats going on with them. Thanks...RyanB

Could be the bushings...Id consider looking into changing from radius arms to a 4link setup though; something that you can adjust the upper links up and down a few inches to change the antidive characteristics.

I was refering to the ones at the axle. I'm pretty sure Lubeowners truck is a newer one that would have that type of suspension. I know Brian has done some turbo work on it. Maybe they can help. Everyone I've seen around here has bad tire shake up front.

This is probably your best bet. None of the Dodges shake up front.

well, that will have to wait untill the winter for something like that. I am going to try an extra shock and see what happens there. Just don't have the time to tear the whole suspension apart right now and rebuild.

I have a 2004 so I still have leaf springs. I notice alot of the coil spring fronts bounce alot. I personally have not worked with one so I am of no help to you. Sorry

How do you keep your front end from bouncing? more shocks? Traction bars?

Mine does, I had this very thing happen to mine on my last hook in Newman, CA. I think it has to do with the track cuz I had no wheel hop at my latest hook in Ukiah where the track wasn't as tight as the track in Newman. I used to have the dual shock set-up up front but ditched it for weight reasons and I think I might try putting it back on just for tracks like Newman.
It seems to me, Ryan, like that track in your video was similar and hooks up very well hence with all that bite up front it's almost like pulling on concrete or black top. It's hard to say but I can get back to you on my "shock" evaluation on my last pull of the year, the weekend before Halloween. I personally think adding another shock to each wheel will "help" but not eliminate it.

Here are my 2 latest Newman pulls, you can somewhat see the wheel hop similar to yours. The second hook the sled operator set the sled up WAY too tight.

Whats your tire pressure?

Are you coming to Houston? Or at least one of the last two DHRA points pulls, Southern Ohio, and Kentucky.

Tire pressure is at 28.5 psi. I talked to Haisleys the other day and Van said I should drop them down to just over 20 and run a set of Drag Shocks out in front of the axle. He said it should be fixed by doing that.

I would love to make it one of the DHRA pulls but I don't see it happening right now. I am swamped with work up here untill mid October. I will be comming down to Haisleys pull in Sumitville, IN in the end of October if its still a go. Next year I am planning on comming down quite a bit...at least all the Ohio and Indiana DHRA pulls.

Only thing is I think I am going to get my butt kicked hooking up with the Super Street boys. If I can get this thing setup right though...that 14" of extra wheel base might help a bit.

Thanks again for all the help.
