I put the spool in the front of my truck tonight and now I have a problem. I still have a 2 piece right axle with the Posi-Lock on it to make it easier to turn. The problem is that the guy I had help me with my gears thinks that now the inner shaft will push into the spool to far since there is no pin there to stop it. Anyone had this experience?

Yes, he is right. I have the same spool for the Dana 60 and I could definately see the inner shaft going too far into the carrier & off of the splines. I guess like mech2161 mentioned, cut the shaft for a snap ring or go with a lock out hub kit with solid shafts.

there is a cheap and easy fix for this, put a spring in the spool it will keep enough pressure on the axles to keep them pushed out against each other. this is how our 2.8 truck is setup

Gerrod-Just curious about the spool your using. Who is it made by and do you have any part #'s? I was out looking for a 4:10+ carrier yesterday to weld up the front end and its looking like I have to buy new...may as well just forget welding it up and go with the spool seeing I have to buy new anyway.

30 spline?? There are 35 splines available and I thought the axle upgrade could be had for the $400 or so.

We don't all have money like you Dan. I have yet to see someone break a 30 spline on in the front of these trucks.

I think Joel Reece. The 30's do hold up pretty well, especially in sand. :poke:
I am still running the 30's with no problems...yet.

I hope people don't have money like me. My wife gave me $15 sunday, I told her I needed money for gas this am, and she was like, what did you do with the $$ I gave you sunday? I was like $5 of that was for two meals, so $10 won't get me much gas! Plus food for the rest of the week?

I thought I was the only one with this problem....:hehe:

I found a solution last night and its simple and cheap. I went to the local hardware store and got a 1.25" pipe nipple. Then I cut the nipple down to .350" long to make a sleeve. This sleeve slides over the inner axle to the CAD holding the axle in place.

Jerrod- all I can say is.... a picture is worth a thousand words!!!!

If I remember right, the portion of the axle in the CAD area has a much bigger OD. So you had to remove the axle, install the sleeve, then put the axle back in?

Yeah I removed the both inner and outer axle put the sleeve on the inner one then reinstalled both axles.
