i checked the level of my oil the other day (about 4 weeks after an oil change) and the oil level was about 3/4" above the "safe" area on the dip stick, and had a hint of diesel smell to it.

think im getting fuel in the oil? should i get an analysis to confirm? how does fuel get in the oil, if that is the case?

btw, when i change the oil, it normally takes right under 12 quarts. this is for the truck in my sig...

I would say those injectors would be the place to start for ridden yourself of the fuel in oil issue, unless you have a o-ring cracked or something on a connector tube.

Do you idle alot ?

Put a drop of oil on a piece of white computer paper and let it dry over night. If you see a clear ring around the outside of the oil drop then you have fuel in your oil. Also, put some on your fingers. If it's real runny and thin then you've probably got fuel in your oil. Have an oil analysis done on it also.

should only be 11 quarts, i wold think bad injector o-ring or hold down could have loosened!!

i will be doing this here shortly...that is a good idea

i was told to use a white paper towel and the ring will form almost immediately

i did the paper towel oil analysis today i cant say that i noticed any ring around the oil.

no..i dont idle too much

I would take an oil sample and have it analyzed

how often do you check your oil level? the oil level on the stick will change depending on how recently the engine's been run, etc.

I wouldn't get too worried at this point

Neither would I. When it starts blowing out of the blow by tube and raining oil underneath your truck and your dip stick is 3" over full then I'd be worried.

i usually have blow by for about a week after an oil change...then its good from there

Some of the "stuff" in the oil cooking off, no worries there with the blowby. If you are making oil the smells like diesel you might want to get the injectors checked out, a cracked tip will do that and show very few other symptoms.
