Fuel leak and hard to start...

I've got a fuel leak somewhere that I'm having a hard time finding... It leaves about a softball sized mark on the pavement overnight. At the same time this fuel leak started, the truck decided it would be hard to start after sitting for a while.

It looks like it is dripping down around the bell housing and that is where it is leaving a wet spot. But I can't find anything leaking... I thought maybe it was the #6 injector leaking around where the line goes into the head, but it is dry.

I plan on spraying the engine down with degreaser and getting it all cleaned up then trying to find it but was wondering if anyone had any ideas about where it might be?

I have good fuel pressure starting it, and no codes at all.

i had a burr on number one line at the connector tube, itd drip there, run all the way down the head, and down the bell housing. also caused a hard start.

check your injector line to head connections, then check the return line on the back of the head! its gonna be one or the other!

There is enough slope on the engine that a leak on a front injector line will drip at the back of head / bell housing area. The fuel just runs the length of the intake plate. Just a thought.

I would still suspect the return tee at the back of the head though.

I was wondering where the return line was... But would that cause it to start hard?

There is NO wetness or anything on the top of the head. Buddy of mine is a diesel mechanic asked me where the return line was, and I didn't know. He said it's probably leaking back there based on where the fuel is.

But he said the return line shouldn't cause hard to start. So he said I may have two problems.... but they both showed up at the same time...

I checked my codes and I have none. I idle at 19psi, and I heard too much pressure on start up can cause hard to start. Could 19psi be too much? I have been running with this setup for a year or so now, and the hard to start showed up the same time as the fuel leak...

Where is the fuel return line on the back of the head? I supposed it's probably harder to get to than even the #6 injector?

Only pic I can find is this:Fuel System Layout

if it is allowing air in the system, the hard start comes from having to reprime!

air getting into the return will let the vp feed drain back.
