fuel leak at head

I had fuel seeping through the threads of the nut at #4 cylinder so (having experienced this in the past with the old head) i replaced the oring on the injector CROSS OVER TUBE. Still had a slow leak at the #4 cylinder. Thinking maybe it was a damaged injector line or tube, i switched the #4 cross over tube with the #5 cross over tube (both with new orings). NOW, fuel is seeping through the threads of the nut at #5 cylinder, NOT at #4.

Is it possible that the injector cross over tube is damaged causing the leak?? It looks to be damage FREE, but thats just with the naked eye.

Did you look closely at the tip of the crossover tube? I think that if the tips get beat up from lots of injector swaps they wont press against the injector body completely. Maybe thats causing your leak? Though it seems like it would be pretty hard for the fuel to get back through the O-ring and threads?$.02

I would look at the edge filter also for an obstruction.

they have been through several injector swaps...i am an injector gypsy and i really like these 6x12s im running now....

back to the cross over tubes...i inspected the entire tube and it looks good to me but that doesnt mean it couldnt be damaged?? i dont really know...i also heard that the ends on the injector lines get damaged...any other thoughts??

the leak isnt as bad as the 1st time i experienced this problem...the first time (which was fixed by replacing the oring) i had a HUGE puddle of fuel under the truck...

now i have NO puddles under the truck...just noticed a diesel fuel smell one day and checked...put my finger under the nut at the head and its definately leaking fuel

the threads are not cross threaded...the nuts go into the head smoothly and easily and there is no abnormal play

i have heard of people not re-using cross over tubes after taking them out. i have never personally seen any issues with them from all of the guys around me that swap out injectors a lot. might try gettin a new tube or just replacin all of em.

anyone out there got a set of .093 tubes they wanna get rid of??

although i would not like to spend the money on all 6 b/c it may turn out to be something else

i used to have someones extra set layin in my garage. i will check to see if they are still there this weekend. if not i will find out who's they were and see if they will sell them. they are not drilled out but you could at least see if thats the problem and if it fixes it you could get them drilled out again.

i plan on reworking the surface where the injection line sits in the tube...maybe it will reseat...if thats the problem

the good part is that i have isolated the leak to a cylinder that only requires loosening the nut at the head and a few clamps....#4 and 5 are pretty easy to get to

***UPDATE***

stopped the leak....

it was a combination of two things (thanks to erik (smokin'2000) and shane at wicked diesel)

1. the cross over tube had a small scratch where the injector line fits into the tube. i used a dremel bit and rotated the tube in my fingers until the surface of the tube was smooth again.

2. put tube back in and tightened the nut at the head. after it was tight, i loosened it and tightened it back up and was able to get the nut to turn a little more. i continued this a few more times until i could no longer turn the nut. (i wasnt cranking the ape sh!t out of the nut but enough to get the injector line to seat properly in the tube)

i have since put about 30 miles on it w/o the slightest bit of leak

thanks again everyone
