What does everyone do when their fuel level sender starts to read incorrectly. Got left on the side of I70 today because the gauge read 1/8th tank and the truck was empty! Thank goodness for AAA. I am guessing it is a potentiometer, and their is some corrosion that is adding extra resistance. Anybody cleaned it up and had good luck? Clean the wiper section, or is corroding at the plug?

Ha mine was empty at an 1/8th also. It left me sitting twice and twice i had to buy a 5 gal. can and diesel. Then it stopped on me at a 1/4 once. Then i just replaced the unit. Its not that bad to replace. Fairly cheap from dodge also.

I thought it might of been my LP so i went and bought one but it wasnt it. So now i have an extra 12v lp. Should of known that they dont go bad within a year:bang

I don't even pay any attention to my fuel gauge. I reset my trip everytime I buy fuel and somewhere around 400 mi I start to look for fuel. Haven't been stranded yet *knocks on wood*

My truck was doing the same thing. I found a brand new sending unit on ebay. Its basically a electronic float and the dial gets wear marks over time and will miss read. McDeeautoparts on ebay is were I got mine.

Yep Mine was the same, but eventually it wouldnt read any less that 3/8 when I was almost empty. I did the same thing and bought a sending unit off ebay. http://cgi.ebay.ca/New-Dodge-Ram-Fuel-Gas-Gauge-Tank-Sending-Unit-Diesel_W0QQitemZ350135994173QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item350135994173&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1215%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
If you are thinking of replacing the pick up tube with a bigger one in the tank, it would be a good time to do it since you have to drop the tank. It was an easy job replacing the sending unit once the tank was off.

just replace it but make sure you dont fuel up before you do it

I will look elsewhere, this was the first dealer I called, some charge retail, some discount, etc, etc.
