Hey guys. So my dad's truck is a '96 and here a while back the fuel shutoff solenoid caught fire and burnt up. The alternator also quit charging and the trailer brakes quit working and so did the horn. He had a guy put a regulator on the alternator to keep it charging and I put a old solenoid on it. This solenoid is now getting hot when running. Also when its running the generator light will come on for while even though it is charging. Does anybody have any ideas what to check or what might be the issue?

gen light when i had it prior

was a bad pcm.. overcharging the system.. As LReiff stated, check the batteries first, and if your alternator checks out as well... you might be lookin at a new pcm...

the regulator did not work for my fix either back then, so i bit the bullet and bought the pcm...
