Full manual VB in 47RE?

Ok, so I'm not exactly familiar with the VB in the RE transmissions... I've only worked on the RH's. I'm inquiring about the 47RE because, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me here. I'm also hoping that the 46RE (pretty much the same trans) has the same VB.

Here goes, I just got a heck of a deal on a 46RE trans (small block chrysler) that I plan on putting behind a 340 in a tractor pulling project. What I want to know is if a the full race Trans-go shift kit will allow me to shift the transmission 1-3 manually. I figure I can hot wire lock up (and OD should I need it), but I don't want to spend $1k on a stand alone controller :bang Because that would obviously defeat the whole purpose of getting a killer deal on the trans

Or better yet, does anyone know if the RE case still has the openings for the governor tubes... Maybe I can throw one of my spare 47RH OD housings on the back and toss in an RH VB :poke:

Again, I have NEVER seen the inside of an RE trans, so any help is greatly appreciated... I also realize this doesn't exactly fit this site seeing as it's technically a gasser question :bang

Either PM RockinMC about your tranny question or call 972-524-9972 ask for Jay or Mike any of these Trans Pro guys will be able to help you.

Cool, does that setup seem to work well for you? I just know these local tranny guys very well and they do a very good job, just passing the number on for good advise:Cheer: And thanks for the :rockwoot: on the pic from this last Sunday! Not sure if that pic was with them on the way up or down but many at the tree said they were up around 12-14" and all the way through low gear.....foot brake to baby:hehe: Thanks Again
Ryan

Edit: i suppose it has to be on the way up... you can still see the green bulb on the tree:doh: I think i shift right at the 60' it went a 1.36 on that pass.... the weight bias is awsome to, heck it must be 80/20.... :hehe: Lots of tire and hit em' hard

nope. i am running my od and lockup on a switch. no pcm or tcm here.

Awesome :rockwoot:that's exactly what I was looking for... I don't mind installing a slapstick; what else would I have done anyway?

It's going in this.....

Though everything from the back of the TA housing forward is going to be replaced with a fabricated frame and I need to add a roll cage yet... That's basically what it's going in :rockwoot:

EDIT: BTW Ryan that's pretty friggin awesome... What kind of traction bars are you running? I've been thinking about dropping some leaves and adding airbags for when I tow. Thoughts?

works great. i absolutely love the full manual vb. get the performance that a drag race auto provides but still get the fill of a manual truck having to shift the gears . i love it. here is a pic of my setup. the botton on the shifter actually is my overdrive switch.

That's a pretty sweet set up... I used to shift my truck manually with the stock shifter; my VB wasn't quite set up for 3kgwm... I got pretty good at timing my shifts to where I would let out of the throttle right as the trans shifted. Most people who knew me asked if I did a manual swap :hehe:

Transgo has a reprogramming kit to do this. You want the TFOD-3 kit.

I haven't used this kit, but I can tell you that the other "stick shift" kits that I've used in the past have compression braking in all gears unlike a lot of manual valve bodies used in race cars. Each type has its benefits.

Not that I'm aware of.
