My buddies 01.
Started having this random lope out if the blue,
He has since, adjusted apps to a good middle of road voltage, replaced cam sensor, cleaned and checked as many grounds as feasible to reach, installed fresh checked injectors,(got em cheap) installed a raptor 150,(planned on doing so anyways) removed box from vp and took of truck, cleaned map sensor....
Tomorrow he will clean iat sensor..and we will run valves this weekend.
No codes and out of ideas.

Need help! Thanks guys.

How did the injector feed tubes look? Did he install new o-rings on them and torque them properly? Does it run fine otherwise (anything over idle)?

New o rings all around torqued properly, buffed up the end with scotch brite for new injectors, and yes, just over idle is fine, but on occasion that is a touch funky too.

could be the fuel temp sensor inside the vp... I've seen them cause a lope....does it only do it when its warm?

It is definitely worse when warm..
Its a blue chip diesel special vp.... He has about 40k miles on it.....

you should be able to monitor the fuel temp with a good scanner... the number will be crazy like 999 or something like that....I've seen a few do this, although it affects performance none

try coolant temp sensor had a truck that idle fine when really cold like 20 degrees seen as it warmed up it would lope

Coolant temp gauge works fine, which is ecu driven, so I am guessing its right.
Iat did nothing, cleaned map as well, though its only a year old..

Have to get access to a scan tool and check outthe vp temp sensor,

Any other ideas?

not sure on vp's but i know on common rails first thing to check is return flow to see if tubes or injectors are leaking

The fuel temp is send out of the ECM on the CAN bus. Any scanner should be able to read it through the ECM diag plug that is handing under or around the fuel filter canister. It is a three pin connector. I can read fuel temp with my Edge Attitude monitor. Or I would imagine a really nice scanner like a SnapOn Modis or DRB could read it through the diag port under the dash.

Thanks jory... Will see what my neighbor can do for me!

Is this sensor easy to bypass? Or replace or trick?

Its maintaining 16psi at idle with no drop when on it, and fires right off when cranked, why replace it with another?
