anybody want to give up there gear secrets wondering what ratios you go with what gear u pick on the 4500 and what tire you like the best should a person do a dually conversion for sled pulling i currently run 4.88s in hi sec cam dosent start making real power till 4k but never had a pump that would run there it would free rev a 5500 but not hold it down the track i am putting a good pump on it for 08 to try to keep it running 4500 or so down the track were not allowed to run drop box or snything like that just wondering if i was going in the wrong direction or what i pull in the pro street class i was leaning toward the sts for next year or them on the front and dually in the back but what tire if i do it

Try to run on the low side of the transfer case and use your direct gear. Pick the rest of your combo for that.

theres not much choice a person has without a box i know that in my case hi sec with 4.88s is a lower gear than low 4 ive changed gears 3 timjes now trying to get it right just wanting help from others

Run in 4th on the low side with 4.10's and 35 in. tires. Calculators say that is almost dead on for 4500 rpm's. If you think you will be closer to 5000 rpm's then go with 33 in. tires.

4.10s is no mans land gears, keep the 4.88s or maybe do the 4.63/4.56 combo

4.10 gears can work, it depends on tire selection, track type, and turbo charger selection.

i had 4.10s at 1 time this summer i didnt like them in low 4 only high sec would it pull i see alot of guys running 6.20s etc but they use a box i would think the lower you can go the better you would be to and extent and be easier on your truck

You are correct. The drop box guys have several gear selections, with a quick change box. You will have issues finding a ring and pinion for anything more than 5.38(I think) for a D80. I know there is a 5.13 for the d80. Lots of it depends on the charger selection and tire choice.

My guess with the 4500 RPM you are saying you want to run you will have at least a 2.8 charger with a fairly large turbine section. Give me your email I ahve a spreadsheet I can send you to help with the ground speed and gears.

never got it just the fwd from other people sorry i like to run 5800 down the track that would be screaming 5.38 is the biggest for a 80 7.17 is the biggest for a 60 i got the 4500 ratios in my head id like to know exactly what a rockwell 106 was put in cause its just a matter of time before they will be allowed in the class

what would yall say with a 2.6 charger and 33's trying to pull 4000rpms down the track

4.10's or 4.56's?

from what im figuring out as low as you can go my buddies has a strong running d max with alot of$$$$$ in it and i think he was going to go to 4.56 to pull low 4th some ways down the track

I would make sure you have plenty of exhaust housing to turn 4000 rpm on a 6.6 motor with a 2.6 charger.

I am pretty sure the winner of scheid diesel had 4.10's and another great running dmax had 3.73 and both of these guys were hitting 4th gear. Of course Scheid was a 350' track.

5.29, 5.83, 6.14, 6.20, 6.80, 6.83, 7.20 are the ratios for the rockwell 106.....

to turn 4500 rpm's in direct drive with 5.38 gears, 35 inch tires, using a 2.72:1 low gear in the t-case (i think that is what most new t-cases use) your going to need to achieve about 32 mph wheel speed......from there if you cut the final drive gear to a lower numerical number your mph increases....

to get 4000 rpms with a 33 inch tire, in direct drive, with 4.56's, 2.72 low gear, your going to need 32 mph.......with that all the same but 4.10 gears, your looking at just a shade over 35 mph......

with these "drag race" sleds we got out here now i would want as much ground speed as possible before they put the hammer on the truck......

Thats what I'm talking about. You better have that sled movin before they lay it on ya. So I would try to get as much speed as possible.
