Gearing Change 5.9 to 6.7?

Was there a gearing change in either the trans. or axles from the 5.9s to the 6.7s? My friend had a 5.9 3rd gen and now has a 6.7. Cruising at about 60mph the RPMs are much lower with the 6.7 than they were with his 5.9. Both trucks were manual trannies, and both had 3.73s I believe.

Early G56's have a higher 6th gear.

3.42s are availible now also arent they? and a taller 6th gear.

I actually meant the ealier g56 had a lower 6th gear. IE the earlier g56 will turn more RPM than the laters. I hope I got that right.

The G56's that came in the 5.9's had the lower 6th gear(numerically higher). The 6.7 G56's came with the higher(numerically lower) 6th gear. Yes 3:42 gears are available for the 6.7's.

My 07' 5.9 with stock tires and 3:73's runs 70mph at 2300rpm. My buddies 08' 6.7 with 3:42's and stock tires runs 70mph at 2000rpm.
