I am running a vp44 where my ideal pulling rpm would be right around 3300, but with 3.54 its alot of stress on the rears. Would a change to 4.30's hurt me too bad right now until I get a p-pump on the truck and can run 4200-4400?

I don't want to go through all this work to find out its a horrible match up for my truck.

What gear in the tranny U runnin? and on 33 inchers right low side of T-case?
Brandon

sorry

low side of the case
4th gear in the tranny
on 33" BFG's and some day STS

As of right now you should see 24 MPH wheel speed, if you went to 4.10's and ran 5th gear you would see (saying things are accurate) 29 MPH wheel speed as far as being easier on parts ????? not sure but bumping up the wheel speed should help U on the track? I would say run what ya got untill it gets that P thing IMO.
PS I used 4.10's in my tabulations.

last season i ran around 3600-3700 on the track and its way too much, no power up there. this year I gotta find a way to hold 3300rpms on the track to stay in the fuel.

here is a video of me running 3700 and you can see the wheel speed i am getting.

I used 3300 RPM for my calcs, so I see you want to stay in your powerband of say 3300 RPM?
Brandon

yea at 3700 rpms i am making less than 300hp and less than 400tq :(

only til i get a p-pump tho

I wouldn't worry about your rpms.. if you are running at 3400 rpms.. your going to be partly loaded.. (loaded enough to have pulled it down to that rpm.. 4-600rpms..?? where ever you have your red line set.) As the sled gets heavier, it will pull the rpms down.. and up the HP/Torque curve.. (It makes more sense if you were to run your engine on load or engine dyno.. and plot the graph..) If its only making 300hp at 3700rpms.. maybe 500 at 3400 it will get there at the load get heavier.. If you start at 3400 loaded.. its going to run out of Hp at the end.. (Did that make any sense?? haha..)

I go after wheel speed.. Just watching your videos.. it looks like you are not running out of HP.. what ever you have to do to gain ground speed..

Just my opinion..

Did you dyno with the redline??

yea i was the unhappy debunker of the myth that the redline makes power above 3300rpms. graph looks just like the TST graph. So i called chip...he said no box will be able to flatline the tq/hp above 3300 because there is not enough available timing in the vp44 to make power up that high. he said you push as much fuel into the pump as you want but there is a limit where you just cant get anymore out...and even if you could, its not being injected at the right time. He said I would have better luck finding HP by having a set of custom sticks made that are set to spray into the bowl when the timing is maxed out on the pump at high rpm...but its gonna idle and run down low like crap.

he did say the monster pumps have SOME more timing built in...so they can make more up high, but by then time I sell all my electronics my conversion should cost the same as a monster pump...and will make more power without the fear of it going dead out of nowhere.

my truck is the same way i never seem to run out of power i always spin out at the end just dont always have the wheel speed

Thanks Dan...didn't know about that.

4th gear, low side, 3500rpms=25mph
2nd gear, high side, 3500rpms=28mph

Later this year with the changes to the truck my goal is
4th gear, low side, ~4200rpms=30mph

TJ,
Can you list your mods and maybe I can help you out.
I have a buddy that runs an 01/6speed and it runs good.

TJ, Would you please post the dyno graph? I would be interesting to see. Thank you

Ok I am going to wierd T.J. out, but I have a good memory.

02 QC/LB Single Stack, Traction bars, Redline, Smarty, DDP Injects, Valve Springs, SBC DD clutch, Silver Bullet, Studs, Orings, 6spd, HD transfer case,

That should cover it. I think

Tires?

I'll stick with what I got for now...I am very happy with the way it pulled today!
