After having half my face and my right leg completely reconstructed after a really bad motorcycle accident Im geting back into a diesel. And yes they do face off surgeries for that bad of damage. I am looking at both a 05' Dodge Cummins manual or an 08' F-250 6.4l lariat. Am leaning towards Ford cause good god the power gains you can make and cause it has leather and power everything like my tahoe but am leary cause I had an early 03' 6.0l that cost me more in parts than the truck cause of constant issues. Mainly I want to know if Ford got there act together on the 6.4L and the transmission. The Ford has 124,000 miles on it and also I am courious if it will be a concern to mildly modify it and will the tranny hold up if I drive normal alot but everyonce and awhile goose it good.

i would go with the dodge only because i like manual trannys. They dont ever give me problems like the autos do. And its the worst feeling in the world to be on vacation 1000 miles from home and have your tranny start acting up....

Man i just got my motorcycle and now your scaring me with this thread!

Good luck to ya in your recovery! I would go with an 06 dodge if i had a choice between the two.

6.4, its a no brainer for me

Go with the dodge. I work on 6.0's and 6.4's to pay the bills and my truck never leaves me on the side of the road

Remeber to never ride scared. Mine was a freak accident. Had I been one second faster my wife would have been in the accident in her car instead of me.

I've always been a manual dodge person after my 03' 6.0 but after driving bosses truck (which is a king ranch 4x4) till my new jetta diesel came in I'm starting to slowly convert back to ford cause that thing was comfortable and had good power. But nothing sounds like a cummins with straight pipe or yanks like one. The ford has all Luxeries like my Tahoe. I'm more concerned about having a repeat of my 6.0 all over which I don't want.

I own a dodge and really wanting a 6.4, my dad has one and couldn't be happier.

i got a 6.4 mans a 08 as well, give me a shout if you want or need anythign

Got a 08' extended cab short bed 4x4 Ford FX4 F-250 today. Less mileage than the one I was looking at. All I can say is :woohoo:. Now I got to figure out exhaust, intake and programmer. All the emmissions crap is going to accidently fall off. HEHEHEHE!!!!! Got to do more reseach on other stuff I can do. Felt good driving a truck again. Course still going to drive my Jetta diesel back and forth to work cause nothing beats 45 miles to the gallon.

i got rid of an 05 dodge 6 spd w/ programmer, and bought an 08 ford 6.4 auto. my dodge never left me stranded, but interior is not as nice, and got around 22 mpg's.

my new 6.4 broke down on me on the day i bought the damn thing, but it was a sensor. i say freak breakdown... but i just put h & s probgrammer and dpf delete and air cleaner... the 6.4 is probably the fastest truck ive ever been in. it hauls a$$. BBBUUUTTTT mileage SUCKS!!! bone stock 1 ton w/ 4:10's 9-11 mpg empty. after programmer it added 5 mpg.

at times i really want my dodge back, but this ford is freakin nice and will run MUCH faster. oh and the tranny in the ford is 10x better than dodge auto, but neither compare to hp holding power of dodge 6 spd (with aftermarket clutch of course)

if you want a high hp truck thats nice but dont mind a high fuel bill go with the ford. if you want a low fuel bill and have to pay a little more to get the hp go with dodge. its always gonna be a pissing match between ford and dodge. the dodge is by far alot more reliable, but the 6.4 i think will be a good motor once people start racking up the miles.

oh and dont do a dpf back, just take the whole deal off, and if you gotta get inspection of warranty work put it back on. you cant add fuel to make hp with the dpf present, i mean you can but it will regin more or get stopped up quicker.

Sorry to hear about your accident.. I could share quite a few stories with ya of my own.
I'm a walking orthopedic nightmare from all my motorcycle accidents.. I've got a LONG list..

If it has to be a Ford, 6.4's are hauling arse these days. Heard lots of great things.
