When you drop it into gear it engages REALLY slowly and rarely shifts... If it shifts its a slow lazy shift. Last night it was driving fine until 2miles from home taking off easy from a stop sign it wouldn't shift out of first for a while then a lazy shift to second and third.

This morning if you drop it in gear it feels like it wants to but you can't move the truck at all... What kind of a problem are we looking at? Trans is 1yr old from Goerend and has approx 12K miles on it. This is in a friends 02 making 582HP...

Pump??

can a govener pressure silenoid cause the truck to not move... I'm not disagreeing just asking.

identical problem that happened to me a while back. u explained it dead on as to what my tranny did. it ended up being a seal that broke. which lead to the tranny not being able to hold fluid pressure. which lead to the tranny being lazy and not wanting to shift. call dave and tell him that the same thing happened to a guy out in Turlock, ca(erb's bros. diesel). he will know.

That's what I was thinking too.

It would be beneficial to put a gauge on it and see what is happening though.

whats the goerend pressure supposed to be at the govener pressure port?

Well many times people feel if the truck is in 3rd(limp) that the truck doesn't want to move.

Governor pressure should rise ~1psi/mph.

I would be more concerned with what line pressure is reading and/or if you have a pressure loss there.

AFIK, limp mode is 2nd gear, but it does make the truck drive like crap when it is in it.

Limp mode is the first thing I was thinking of, but based on the description I'm not sure that is what is going on. It might not hurt to check all connections, etc. just to make sure it isn't something simple.

its not in limp mode... when you first start it it starts moving then completely stops no matter the rpm.

whats the tell tale pressure reading that will tell me if theres a problem?

I don't know what kind of line pressures a Goerend trans should see, but I would expect it to be somewhere between 150 and 200. Maybe a little lower in 1st and 2nd gear.

Limp on the front wheel drives are 2nd.
On the 47/48RE it is third gear. You can go back and forth from 2nd and 3rd. If you know how you can get 1st gear also.

I was going to say it sounds like a bad seal in the accumulator. so you aren't holding pressure. Front servo seal, should really only effect the shift into 2nd, or kick down. And rear servo, would effect manual low and reverse.

You're not getting any codes?

if it's a Goerand trans and it's a year old why not just call them??? should be under warranty...

Goerend didn't answer 5 phone calls from 2 different phones. They got it apart and put it back together tonight. He's back on the road but the amount of sludge in the pan from a <12k mile trans is interesting.

he is a small shop with a lot of work coming in and out. give him time. i know it sucks to have to wait when your down but he will answer and it will be worth the wait.

this sounds crazy but its looking like a dirty filter was the problem... the fluid looks like its got a lot of red clutch material in it... on Sat we changed the fluid and filter and it ran fine...

we put 100 miles on it this weekend then last night we drained the pan, converter and flushed the lines and coolers, reset the bands and put fresh fluid and filter back in it and going to monitor the amount of trash in the fluid.

It seems to shift perfect, no hanging up and doesn't feel like anythings dragging so we'll just have to wait and see what happens

Torqueflites always make metal/clutch dust, but the description sounds like it is excessive.

I lost three transmissions exactly like this, Hence I'm selling, Your pressure regulator valve is sticking allowing the transmission to slip slightly, not enough to tell, but enough to create excessive wear on the clutches. Goerend and Dunrite, figured this out and now put in a steel pressure regulator piston in place of the aluminum which can stick in the bore intermittently. Mine did not show up on a pressure test. When the filter plugged the second time, I was cooked so to speak. All information is from what I was told.

Good luck
