Right at the end of 2006 i took my truck to have tranny rebuilt at a shop that was "supposedly" good at build some beefy trannies. So, i took it there and got a Georend triple disk converter, and was told the valve body was supposed to be new, and it was getting a big shift kit as well. They told me that the trannyt could hold 700 hp or twins. That i could do anything i wanted with it, drag it sled pull, or tow. ng. The first month or so i got it, it wasn't shifting out of first when i hammered on it, so i took it back they said that they hadn't filled it up with fuild all the way and that was the cause....So a few months later i take the truck down to the drag strip with coon smile. Well all three runs it wouldn't shift out of first on its own. I would have to let out of it then get back into it. The next day i get into the truck (its about 70 degrees out) Throw it in gear and it stalls. And does this several times. Took it back to them again, they told me it was the lock up selenoid in valve body. $80 and 2 days later i have my truck back, they said its all fixed and ready to go. Later that night i put it in gear, same thing, dies right there. So, i call them up again the next day and tell them what happend and this is what he said. "Really, hm...well i kind of noticed that the TC didn't feel like it was locking up when it was hear last, maybe thats it. I didn't want to bring it up before because i was hoping the lockup selenoid would fix it." SO, i am beyond pissed now. I take the truck back up they yank the TC out Dave sends a new one back, and a week later and $500 i have my truck back. Now since then i still will not shift on its own out of first on the track, and still stalls when i put it in gear. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INSIGHT AT ALLL!!!!!

I suspect they put the wrong shift kit in it. Probably a shift kit for a gasser, which can turn more rpm than your diesel can. Check your TV cable and make sure it is adjusted properly. Does it die in forward and reverse??

Throttle valve cable. When you floor it, it tells the tranny to hold the shifts longer(ie so when you floor it it doesn't shift the same as when you give it 1/4 throttle). There is a spec on it, but basically have someone get in the cab and shove the pedal tot he floor with the engine off, you will seem something move ont he drivers side of the tranny. WIth the pedal to the floor, there should be just a small amount of clearance between the stop and the TV arm. Maybe 1/16" of an inch or less. I actually let mine bottom out, but if you get it too tight you can break the cable and basically smoke your tranny.

If they put the wrong TV spring in the shift kit(or didn't change it) it could cause the problems your seeing. With the increased pressures of a shift kit you need to put in a lighter spring. I left the stock spring in mine cause I have a 12V and can see some RPM, my full throttle shifts are 3500 or so. Since your 24V won't hit those rpms under a heavy load, you may never shift.

I think I would have been alittle skeptical after the shop said that they hadn't filled the trans to the proper level. Do your self a favor drive out to Daves shop and get it done rite. Most of these shoe maker shoppes that tell you they can build a transmission as good as anyone usually don't know dick !!! Just my $.02. Thanks Steve B.

Need to get one of Dave's VB's. I think the spool valve that controls lock up is stuck. This can happen after a input shaft snaps or a VB is put together by someone who does know what to look for. It is almost never the lock-up solenoid. Its not the T/C either. Do what you want, but I don't think that the title of this thread is slighly misleading. It not Dave's tranny but you made it look like Dave's tranny is the problem. Just a thought.
Throw in a new VB from Dave and you should be fine. Another thing on the first gear problem, check output speed sensor and what it is reading.

Can't drive out there if it won't stay running in gear..lol

Title says georend TC not tranny, but ill keep that in mind.

And it stays in running gear. It just won't shift out of first when i hammer on it off the line.

I was mislead when i bought the tranny in first place. There was a few people i knew well that swoare by there transmissions. So, whats better then feedback from people that already have the tranny...Well i guess they changed the way they did things because my tranny is messed up, and another buddy of mine that got the sameone built right before i did his died too...

I don't have the money to drive out to daves and have him build one for me. I wish i did but i am in school and i am still paying this tranny off....so for now i want to try and fix it untill i get some more money.

Do a search on here, someone a few days ago just posted the same thing about not shifting out of first at all. I typed up a lengthy list of suggestions, you can follow the same suggestions.

The tranny you got in your truck was built at Goerends in Iowa? Cuz that don't sound like anyone I know at Dave's shop. It sounds like you got a problem with a valve body for sure. But I don't think you torque converter is the problem. Take a little time and give Dave a call maybe he can help you out. He will steer ya in the right direction for sure.

Good luck.

No its not a georend tranny. Its a georend TC. The shop i took it too was outside of Georgetown Ohio. I have talked with Dave already and i need to take the truck to a shop to have them read the pressure on it so Dave can help me further
