P0216 fuel injection pump timing failure

P1693 diagnostic trouble code detected in powertrain

truck drives fine but has been starting kinda hard once in awhile i think its the tubes in the head to the injectors cause i have never replaced them and since i changed injectors its been that way and after it starts some times it sounds like its missing but will go away after a while any help would be great
 
The 0216 code is usually a death knell for the VP, buuuuuut.. you might try unhooking the batteries overnight to clear everything and be OK. On the connector tubes, swing by a Cummins dealer and pick up the connector tube O-rings and replace them, cheap and worth a try. If you have a ride to the parts house, you can just pull one and have it matched up somewhere, it's a standard size O-ring as best I remember.

I always thought the 1693 was a companion code.
 
Sounds like bad vp, that 0216 usually bad news.

try parking your truck facing down a hill or slight decline. I have a leak somewhere and my fuel is leaking back into the tank causing a hard start. If I park facing down a hill it starts fine, but vice versa and its a hard start every time.

the code reader i used at a buddys shop said it its a geneis reader thing is nice as hell to use

i cleared the code last nite with a reader so i will see if it comes back
 
0216 meant my vp was dying, dead pedal followed by hard starts

it dead pedel on me 3 weeks ago or so and never did since then but the last couple weeks when i have pulled my truck it wont hit 3100 rpms like i could so its prolly time for a new pump then
 
ok i did the 3 turns of the key to get a codes and got a couple other codes

p0622 alternator field improper switching


P1765 trans 12 volt supply relay control circuit
this one might be something with the tranny i put in i had to pull the relay out for it and put some jumper in it from bd for the tranny or the pressesure lock not sure

and for the p1693 if i understand it right is a code telling you that it detects a code
 
1765 is from the tranny jumper IIRC. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but my pump dead pedal onced and I didnt think anything about it, then a month later it started doing at all the time. :(

I would check all of the grounds on the truck, clean your battery contacts, and check the alternator for that other code.
 
ok now truck wont hardly start and smokes white for a little while then goes away. So i take it my pump is shot?
