grey smoke, black soot, lack of power

My truck has been leaving a haze of grey smoke leaving a traffic light after idling. It also has been blowing black soot everywhere else, which it never did. Which leads me to think that I have a fuel issue. The truck is an 05 6.0 98K no tuner, just exhaust, its had a few EGR coolers in its past. I can get the smoke to clear up by unplugging the egr valve but runs good. Anyone else had this issue? Thank you.

Pull out your EGR valve and clean it....it's probably all gummed up.
